Here in 2021, we still don't see any new iteration of this astonishing product. It's crazy to see just how ahead of the time ASUS used to be. I definitely hope that any lapdock makers can take this idea and turn it as a universal product. Smartphones of today are so powerful that it can easily be used as a portable pocket computer.

You are right, if you check our detailed walk through I go over how the back plate works (after I figured it out), and I give it a few good presses to check the durability. And yes, it is compatible, we have a separate video coming up that goes into detail on that.

Thanks for this video -- it's the most detailed video about the Padfone I've found so far. Nice to see you are so excited about opening it! Will look forward to the full review. You asked about the stylus: what worries me is that I will lose it and it is something else to remember to charge. But the same could be said of any Bluetooth headset and at least this is a stylus too. But is that really useful? Impossible to know without living with the device for a while I guess.

I am also in Taiwan and also pre-ordered . . . unfortunately, I was able to get my padfone same day as you but I was told I'd have to wait a week or two for my tablet and keyboard as they got hit with supply issues because of more orders than expected coupled with a supply issue for chipsets. Your video definitely has me biting at the chomps with a bit more impatience as I wait for mine. :-)

didn't get it, so the tablet itself has a built-in processor? or everything runs from the phone's qualcom CPU?

Its clear when the tablet is in the keyboard dock that it is not in all the way on one side. Especially when u show it from the side, you can tell big time its crooked. It may have closed the gap between the two if it was in all the way. I noticed something sticking up in between, like maybe a locking mechanism or something

If the tablet and dock were thinner and looked better (especially the tablet) then I would be much more inclined to buy one. The phone needs a bigger battery as well, but actually looks really nice, and I love how Android ICS looks with Asus' wallpapers and Widgets.

The stylus works as a headset. You just push the button on the stylus and hold it up to your ear.

I'm an iPhone user but this impresses me! I like the concept, very good idea. Nice handset (shame it's android software though) Put iOS on the PadFone & I'd buy it in a minute! Cool video, well explored products, glad u compared to older tablets. Also you have a sexy voice/accent, nicely spoken :)

For any of the many reasons you'd use a tablet rather than a phone :) The tablet dock is just a screen with a battery, it's all powered from the phone so all your apps etc. are the same, it uses the processor etc. from your phone :) Would be cheaper to get the Padfone rather than a phone and a tablet. A massive benefit is only needing one data plan for all of your devices, as your laptop, tablet and phone all run from the same SIM card :)

Love the idea and i believe this is the future now that phones have the same hardware as the tablets. The only down side this model is it should have had a Tegra 3 like the HTC One X and a front facing camera at 2MP with a screen resolution 720 x 1280 and it would be perfect i would totally buy it.

I like the unboxing but you made a few mistake. 1. The padfone station was not docked properly 2. You just don't pull out the padfone out of the padfone station, you have to push the BACK plate a bit more and it will automatically undock the padfone. Also question, is the TF101 dock compatible with the padfone?

I think it's a great idea but it has its cons, if the phone brokes or gets lost, say goodbye to the "tablet" as well

Great thing the phone has OLED display and finger print resistance, but the tablet apparently does not... witch is really screwed up if you catch my drift. and again, one of key reasons I want Asus transformer Infinity, is Tegra 3. This system might be more various, but absence of Tegra graphic card makes it number 2 for me.

asus released pad slider, which i become crazy with that cool device..then when i decided to buy padslider, asus then launched another COOL device which is the padfone...it makes me crazier than that of padslider..then again i decided not to buy either padslider or padfone... Now, i'm waiting for another asus's product...which i hope the productwill be the phone that can be fitted into the padslider as the padfone...

Is this still a valid product? I know there have been a couple more versions of this released. I know someone that is selling a used one, (phone, tablet, stylus, case), and I'm thinking of picking it up and then sourcing the keyboard doc elsewhere. Is this device still fast enough to use modern apps or should I just invest in something newer? Love your reviews Nicole. Keep up the great work.

The keyboard dock seems a little odd compared to the transformer & TF prime, doesn't it? I mean the tablet just... sticks out. Is it maybe because you didn't "lock" it with that little thing near the keyboard hinge? Otherwise it's kind of ugly as a laptop. Still an awesome invention though! Thanks for the video.

I am a phone who*e and I love this device.10x for review. Great that is running stock android. Not as thin as HTC one s. And the other thing,Asus can't publish release date for USA for the last several months ;_( so I got tired of waiting

One guy would change Tegra 3 for 4G LTE in a heart beat, the other guy would change it for stereo speakers... that is very subjective. As far as I am concerned, both Apple and Texas instruments already have chip that can blow tegra 3 to dust. Maybe there is even tegra 4 coming. But Current Tegra works smooth, games looks awesome, and MOST IMPORTANTLY there is whole store dedicated precisely to this chip. Since I am looking for tablet to replace my old PSP. I (as a gamer) am interested in tegra.
