Great video. The first two minutes sounded like a horror movie while you were explaining your computer build😂 looking forward to video on the thermals

Thanx. In my former life I made movies like Freddy Kruger... Is that sounding the quality of the voice recording or the way I speak about it? I started to messure thermals. So far I dont run in too hot temperatures, but I will try to stress the computer more.

The opening of the background song sounded mysterious :) I just received the motherboard last night, the highest temperature I saw so far was around 55 Celsius, but tends to stay around 32 at idle

Oh and what i meassure is not the temp on the cooler with a infrared camera. It is with "Intel Power Gadget" the package temperature.

Hello Lee! How many Watts is your external power supply and how many Watts is the internal one? You do not mention in your description! Thanks in advance! (PS. Also, are you satisfied with the Intertech ITX-601 case after you finished and now that you are using it? Is passive air cooling satisfactory?)
@Loner-Lee9 ай бұрын
Hi Theodore. Not all questions I can answer. The external power supply (a laptop style one) is rated with 60 watts. It is the "stock" one which comes with the Intertech ITX-601 case. I have no idea what the elecotronic in the case does, guess just brings it down to the needed voltages. I am not really satisfied with the case, because it has no front i/o. Just the power button. Wish it had minimum 2x USB 3.0 and one 3.5 audio jack. But I am satisfied with the price, it was the cheapest case including a power supply. ;-) The N100 is now a Linux computer and i just use it when i want to use Linux. My main driver is a Zotac CI629 with Windows 11 or a Macbook Air M1. You see, all passive cooled devices. Is passive cooling satisfaction for me? Guess yes, because I listen the whole day (and night) music. And this on low volume. With the passive cooled devices I have no "background" noise, just music pure. 🙂

@@Loner-Lee Hi Lee, thank you for one more time for your prompt reply!!! I just visited the manufacturer's site and I see that this case comes with the power supply!!! Wawoo, this is a good offer. I think for this PC case you cannot use a bigger power supply, that is, with more Watts. I say so, because in the description of other PC cases they mention that if one wants, he/she can use a bigger one like 120 Watts. Yes, I noticed that too! That on the front panel it does not have any USB ports! Yes, I understand!!! From now on I will try to use passive cooling cases too! For the time being, once the motherboard and memory module arrive, I will put them in my old PC's case. Then, I will have to do good research for a case that will satisfy me and be in my budget! Now I am looking for which NVMe SSD I will settle for! I have some in mind but I have not decided yet! I don't know if you have any suggestions besides the Kingston NV2 2 TB NVMe. Zotac CI629 is quite good I see!!! Thanks again for your time Lee!!! I wish you happy music listening!!! All the best, Theo.

Hi Theo, yes the Intertech comes with this power supply. Really a good price for the complete package. The Intertech website says you can also use optional 90 Watts or 120 Watts power brick. But you dont need to, because you will fit in this case not a CPU with higher power consumption than the N100. And for the N100 the 60 Watts are more than enough. Passive cooling is not for every usecase the solution. If you want to game then active cooling is a must (or you game with low details like me on the CI629). I had a Deskmini X300 with Ryzen AM4 and a Noctual NH-L9a. The Noctua fan comes with a 12 volts to 7 volts adapter. In combination with a own fan curve i brought this PC to nearly silent. And now on the horizion there is the Deskmini X600 with Ryzen AM5 8000G. Really want to do a build, but actual I am out of money... 🙂 Two other devices for gaming, which are nearly silent, are the Xbox Series S and X. For SSD i normally go with a "good" brand, like Kingston, Crucial, Western Digital, Samsung, Seagate and which one I really take is then price driven, the cheapest I get. @@theodorechryssanthidis

@@Loner-Lee Hi Lee! Deskmini x300 nice!!! Well I hope you have the money one day to get your Deskmini x600!!! I am on a very tight budget and because of electricity costs, I have to make a move to something a bit less powerful! As I have already mentioned it is my first passive cooling mini-itx and I hope that for a start it will do! Components probably will arrive toward the end of January and beginning of February. Yes, I think too, that will not need a psu more than 60 Watts. I will measure how much power it will need if whatever I will have on it, memory and NVMe SSD for as long as it is hosted in my old case and I hope that by then I will make up my mind for the new mini-itx case! Thanks again for your reply!!! All the best, Theo.

Hi Theo, i measured the power consumption over a couple of dayds. For me it depends on the operating system and the use case. Under Windows i have all the time MP3 playback and Internet/KZbin surfing. Also some light gaming, something like Rimworld or Anno 1404 works well on this device. When I remember right, I had something between 0.4 and 0.5 kWh a day. (24h of use) Wish you the best with your build, if you want send me feedback when it is complete and thanx 4 the conversation. Greetings. (btw: are 4 from greece?) (btw2: correction, what i have is no Deskmini X300 - it is a Deskmini A300 - the older one)@@theodorechryssanthidis

Hi, thanks for the video, i'm looking for this build but 13w is a little high, maybe it's due to windows indexation for the first run ? Did you try again after that ? Because you got 8w in Linux which is good ! Did you try to check the C-States ? Or have you try to tweak the bios to get lower than 8w ?
@Loner-Lee9 ай бұрын
I dont know when i have done the checks. But it was a couple of days after installation. I can check end of the week again. Normally I am used to have a little better values in Windows than in Linux... BIOS I have not tweaked. I can have a look inside. Maybe there is rrom for optimization. What is your use case for this PC?

Watched the Asus PN42 a time. But i decided to go with building myself because of a) around 100 € cheaper b) negative reminds to the Asus N6000 in the same case. Hello! Have you bench-marked the Kingston NV2 2 TB NVMe "drive" with CrystalDiskMark? If so, what where the scores since it is a PCIe 4.0 connected to a PCIe 3.0 x2 M.2 slot?

No, have not done this. I dont care of SSD speeds in such a computer. I want something around 500 MB/s (SATA SSD speed) than I am happy... Will do this in the next days and let you know, actual there is a Firecuda 510 in it with a Linux installation.

@@Loner-LeeThank you for your very prompt reply!!! I have already ordered this motherboard with 32GB RAM. Initially I will use my regular SSD drive but am looking forward to getting an NVMe "drive". A, I see you will be performing the CristalDiskMark test on the Firecuda 510. I see that this one is a PCIe 3.0 x4, OK! May I ask why you changed from the Kingston NV2 2 TB NVMe to the Firecuda 510, were you able to get more throughput by using the same PCIe 3.0 standard on both sides? I ask these questions because I do not have any NVMe "drives" and I would like to know if I should go with an NVMe PCIe 3.0 or NVMe PCIe 4.0. Why does mine run at 34 watts? I have only a nvme drive installed and 8GB of ram... Idle is 28 watts. Also, changing cstates doesnt seem to do anything. The bios refuses to update (complaining about different model), and in myasus it states under serial number (system serial number). I get random crashes aswell. Bought it completely new. What could it be? RAM?
@Loner-Lee5 ай бұрын
that is complex. first: 34 watts is way to much. never seen this over 20 watts. (with 32 gb ram and 2 tb nvme). so my question is: which is your solution to power up the unit? second: what it can be? random crashes can be ram. but in combination with this high idle power draw and the refuse of bios update i guess that the board has a production fail. for me in windows idle was around 15 watts and max power draw at 20 watts. in ubuntu it was 2-3 watts lower in both. keep me updated. and good luck.

the max power draw from wall in windows was 20 watts. in ubuntu 2-3 watts less. power draw in idle was a little bit hard to measure, because it was an "installed system" with things like one drive running... but i remeber that it was not really low, something around 15 watts. also here it was 2-3 watts lower in ubuntu...
