***UPDATE*** Asus just let me know there some corrections to the specs as follows: The 4050 comes with Windows 11 Home and 4060 with Windows 11 Pro. Also, the AMD integrated graphics on the 4060 configuration were wrong, it should also be 890M.
@ricarmig4 ай бұрын
Paying an extra to have a 3050 or 4050 on a laptop (energy, price bump, thickness) is nonsense, specially having a 60 Hz panel. The 890M is more than enough for personal video editing, some gaming and drive 120 Hz panels; if you want a bump (price, thickness, energy consumption) then go directly to the 4060/4070. This model (60 Hz, 4050) is IMO useless.
@Wistbacka3 ай бұрын

To those complaining about the 60Hz screen you can always hook it up to 120Hz 4K monitor if you want to, I think it's a neat little package... quite ideal for CAD work too
@Rizashi2 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm eyeing this for my next upgrade for my solidworks workhorse as I'm also taking a lot of notes, doing sketches, brainstorming, photoshopping etc... And to keep everything in one package is crazy nice. I've been working with 60 hz drawing monitors for ten years and am not the slightest bothered by it being a 60 hz screen. The way bigger pros as color space and oled quality is majorly outshining the con of 60 hz. This looks like the perfect blend of a powerful CAD machine and a versatile tablet with pen support in a very attractive lightweight package.

For the content creator in you, the Asus ProArt PX13 with the brand new Ryzen AI HX 370 + RTX 4050 graphics card is perfect! I thought the webcam quality and internal mics were good, It's got a stunning 3K OLED Touch display, good port selection, runs cool and quiet and it's got a slotted WiFi 7 card as well as an upgradeable SSD storage solution. There are some negatives of course like a mediocre battery life, no option for 64 GB RAM, fan noise ramping up under heavy load and only 60Hz Refresh Rate but if the negatives are not a concern to you, then I would go for this. On the other hand, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is a very strong competitor to the ProArt PX13 with better speaker quality sound as well. It's unfortunate. But fully managable. People pretend now like 60 hz is unusable, which is odd. It is only 5-ish years since 60 hz was still the mainstream refreshrate for anything not gaming related. Looking at professional, color accurate monitors, all but a few of the most high end last year even were 60 hz. Would I have loved at least 90 hz? Preferably 120 hz? Yes indeed. Especially for the price. But 60 hz is far from bad, and you all know it. If you want 120 hz, I'd recommend the G14. Still 100 % DCI-P3 colors. But this is supposed to be even more accurate (somehow)

I'm a happy owner of a 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 with an RTX 4070. Looking at this (excellent as always, Andrew) review, I'm a little torn about this laptop. It looks and sounds quite good, but I'm not 100% sure what segment of the creator market it's aiming at. Power users are much more likely to get a G14 with an RTX4070, while the 4060 variant of the G14 is, as you pointed out in this review, actually cheaper. So would the smaller screen and the dial make the difference? I doubt it. Nice machine, but I think Asus might be cannibalizing on its own potential customer base with this one.

To those complaining about the about the 60hz display, I guess it depends what kind of design work you do. I do CAD, and some rendering, all still images so frame rate is not a strong criteria compared to processing power. That being said, after 4 months of use, I am bit desapointed that I've already reached the limit of the CPU/GPU/RAM with sketchup (granted the model is heavy, over 200mo)

I was very, very close to buying this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to fit Strix Halos (up to 16 Zen 5 cores and 40 RDNA 3.5 CUs- the equivalent of a mobile RTX 4070) into these next year, and these types of laptops will be much better off for it. The reduced number of parts and ease of cooling means they might be able to put even more the 32GB of RAM in these, or even make it user swappable. I'm in a holding pattern until I see how this shakes out.

@@radlink14 bought the PX13 4060, absolutely love it. Zero regrets. I can even game & edit in my lap via tent mode as it efficiently shoots hot air out through its massive vents! Absolutely top notch purchase, it addresses all of my issues with the G14.

@@radlink14 I ended up going with neither. I decided I didnt need the dedicated GPU. (I also tried them at best buy and the keyboards were not the best) I ended up going with an HP Spectre 14 due to a sale. The keyboard is amazing on it I have to say and the build quality is top notch. Not sure what you need the dedicated GPU for but these laptops dont have good build quality. Hope this helps you in your search! If you have a local bestbuy go and look at laptops there it helped me decide.

Why is everyone so concerned about 60hz?? You should know this is not for gaming so motion is not the priority. This is for artwork and battery power must be compromise.

An ultrportable desktop replacement laptop with a tiny battery and huge proprietary power brick... Oxymoron? Lol... Nice video btw, just an "interesting" product that is perhaps a tad impractical and niche.

Here’s the thing, this is going to go head to head with the Dell XPS line. For some reason Dell refuses to use AMD, so the ONLY thing that sets them apart, functionally is the Haptic feedback and spec’s. ASUS wins but why no haptic feedback? Just for that function wheel? I hate to tell you, almost all true creatives are gonna have their own wheel that’s more accurate. I like this machine but the three main flaws to me is the size, it should be a 14” with at least 600nits, it should have a Wacom pen functionality, and haptic glass touchpad. I want to love this, but it still doesn’t pull me away from the overpriced Mac.

Yikes... feeding the 4050 3x as much power as the Dell and only getting like.. +24% gpu performance? That really sucks. Most of those extra 65W just went into making the thing a space heater rather than doing work :
@isbestlizard4 ай бұрын
Oof yeah the G14 proves that feeding 90W to a 4050 is a foolish idea

13" laptops are such a gimmick, I have a X13 Thinkpad and barely use it because it's so hard to be productive on a 13" display. 14" is the smallest size I'd go for in a laptop.

I think a lot of people feel that way. I also think there is a segment that wants ultimate portability. So its a tradeoff.

When writing at 120hz on a surface pro 9 and a surface slim pen 2 you can't go back, even iPad's writing experience feels like crap and that's second best , the rest of the windows pen able devices don't even compete(my perception out of using many) , can't go back to 60 or any other stylus.
