Great hands on! On the side however, I'm really interested to see the HDMI out performance. Does it handles 1080p output to a TV well enough? How about high bitrate H.264 playback? It would be great if you can add those elements into the hands on

no. It isn't a sata drive, it is eMMC directly soldered to the motherboard. You do however have USB3 on the keyboard dock, microSD on the tablet (advertised as a 32gb max but unofficially its a full SDXC slot, combined with windows 8 it should support the full SDXC spec of 2tb even though 2tb cards dont exist yet). Also its windows, you can use network shared drives from other computers (RT can also do this)

No, it's a basic keyboard dock that just provides the Keyboard, Touch Pad, and USB 3.0 port. The Tablet itself has a 31WHr battery, which should easily get over 8 hours and up to 11 hours under ideal conditions and light work load. While, like any other mobile device, you can let it go into standby and wake it up days to weeks later without needing to recharge. So using it sparingly can mean days of usage on the go. A later update will update the keyboard with a 500GB drive apparently...

Five years ago i FELL inlove w/ Netbooks when i got the Asus Mt91, an 8.9 inch tablet/netbook but it was sooooo slow even with the 2GB upgrade from 1GB. Z520 single core atom, it actual was, "painful" to use, but oh how i how i loved that lil guy! I got this yesterday and it literally is a "night & day" experience! Love this! Supply seems to have already run out and remaining orders are being handled at a premium, but these are mainly through other retailers, like XCaliburPC, that sell through Amazon and not Amazon itself... XCaliburPC is known for taking advantage of supply and demand market fluctuations...

the 32gb version cuts the recovery partition from the device to save on storage. I think it still only has about 10-15gb free.

Only major downer to this over the smart is the 1.3ghz CPU instead of 1.8, but the smart had clovertrail which at the same clock speed was slower than a bay trail chip and this also has 2 more cores

Highly interested on this product. I need something between the a phone and my 15 inch MacBook Pro, and I don't like how lacking the iPad and even Android is for my needs. I also really enjoyed the netbook format, as I used to own an MSI Wind U100, and I don't like bringing my Mac that I use for school on vacation, especially how many crucial files and programs are contained on this laptop. I'm a bit of an old-school guy who loves full blown x86 OSes. Full Windows 8.1 plus Office 2013 already makes this a tempting product, the 10 hour battery life is tempting, and the $350 price tag just seals the deal.

Keep in mind also that there is a MicroSD slot for minimal amounts of additional storage.. But yes.. the 32GB version will have very little storage space when all is said and done.

A bit more than that... Other 32GB W8 tablets like the Acer W3 show 7.2GB free after all the Office is installed, all updates, etc. are done. Mind, some things like SkyDrive can take up more space on the 64GB version as it takes advantage of the extra space for keeping a local copy of your files.

128gb cards havent been released...... the 64gb model also includes a windows recovery partition. It is highly recommended to move this onto a USB thumbdrive as you can then remove it from the tablet and nearly half the storage used by windows. There is a windows 8 feature to do this. It should be able to read any SDXC card, the spec allows for upto 2tb cards so when released 128gb cards should work.

I'm more excited about the upcoming Asus Transformer Book Trio with Android in the tablet and Windows 8.1 when it's docked in the keyboard. On a side note, I really do think that almost all of Asus's phones, tablets and laptops have bezels which are far too big for these days. The only devices from them that are decent in this respect is the 2013 Nexus 7 and maybe some ultrabooks. I really wish they could do something about it.
