ASV has subpar build quality in comparison with Cat. I’ve got both myself. I’d also take the Cat any day over the ASV. The cab and ride of the Cat is unbeatable. The vertical lift of the 299 vs the radial lift arms on the 120 is a definite advantage as well. I just wish Cat would up the power and pressures to match or exceed the ASV. The dealer support with Caterpillar far exceeds the minuscule ASV dealer network.Btw... just put a 5’ head on the 299 and problem solved with the power : )

@jkgpr honestly I think that comment alone just cleared up like 4 months of agonizing between a Cat 299, ASV RT-120, and a Tak 12!!! Look like its gonna be a Cat - and I love that ASV on a test drive but you make all valid points, looks like the smart money goes with the lower power smoother runner. But yea, definitely could use a true 110-120hp with a hi flow that doesnt max out at like 40!!

Good video thanks. You said you would take CAT over ASV. But it looked like the ASV was more powerful when mulching the log head to head. You mention the balance on the ASV was a problem. If you put some rear weights on the ASV, would you still prefer the CAT? Reasons? Thanks for any help!

I would get rid of the asv and get a bigger wheel loader style mulcher like a barko 930. If I had to buy another skid steer mulcher. It would be a cat 299 all day

what i see is the guy on the ASV is always raising his mulcher too high when he moves forward and backward so it is definitely the operator, the guy on the Cat does not raise the mulcher so high so he takes longer and ASV has more clearance as well.

Stability Problem? Operator needs to be more subtle on sticks, Mulching head is nearly stalling as it plows into log, wasting a lot of time pushing into fallen tree from side and not mulching it. Yeah he got the job done but it wasn't pretty. 5/10
