OK so I know it is just my OCD, BUT Dallas to San Antonio is about 270 miles, not 440. However if you went from Dallas to Houston and then to San Antonio that would be about 440 miles. So NO what this shows is not how far apart they are on the map, but rather the distance travelled on the map to get there.

okay why wouldn't you just divide 440 by 11 to get 40? that seemed like the answer when i did it in my head

If 2 inch = 11 miles then 20 inch = 110 miles thus 20inch * 4 and 110 miles * 4 equals to => 80 inch : 440 miles
