ASWAD circa '1981~1982. Left to right ~ Brinsley Dan Forde ~ Guitar/Vocals Levi ~ Percussion Angus "Drummie Zeb" Gaye ~ Drums/Vocals Tony "Gad" Robinson ~ Bass I saw ASWAD in concert in 1985 at the Hollywood "Palace" in Hollywood, CA. They were a trio by then with the departure of Percussionist "Levi". I must say it was a spiritually powerful concert! They first played "Warrior Charge"! They had their powerfully tight Horn Section with them. I will never forget that gig!!!

These guys came to Zimbabwe in 1982. 1st concert people wouldn't let them leave coz the music too sweet so after that they would loop the bass, disappear off stage and by the time we realised it they were driving out of the stadium. Laughed my ass off.

The mighty Aswad were a staple of the London music scene in the late 70's and early 80's, I saw them many times. They were always playing benefit gigs as well as venues and Notting Hill Carnival every year of course. There is a very simple reason for that: they could really, really play. They kicked a colossal weight of arse live, and did so reliably, so everybody wanted to book them. This track comes from their famous "yellow album" called Showcase which has also got Warrior Charge and Back to Affica on it, two very famous Aswad tracks. The other big Aswad record to get is New Chapter and it's partner New Chapter of Dub. Wall to wall killer music.

ASWAD fans, check out the original 12 Inch mix of their 1979 Single It's Not Our Wish/Stranger! "Stranger" was written and sung by Lead Guitarist Donald Griffiths just before his departure. It is one of my all~time favorite Aswad tracks! The superior "It's Not Our Wish" 12 Inch Mix is much different from the "Showcase" mix! It includes a nice Guitar Solo by Donald Griffiths and is longer!
