Asylum seekers left sleeping outside on sidewalks as heat wave bakes Ontario

With a heat wave impacting a large portion of southern Ontario, most people try to spend as little time outdoors as possible.
But that’s not always an option though - some asylum seekers who came to Canada seeking a better life are now sleeping on the sidewalk outside a Toronto shelter assessment and referral centre.
“I’ve just been sleeping outside,” says one asylum seeker who spoke with Global News.

He was scammed by a human trafficking group in Nigeria, and while he was misled into thinking he'd just land in some free shelter right away, there's still the potential of getting that or some other charitable support in Canada, whereas there would be absolutely nothing for him in Nigeria. Canada's past generosity will ultimately equate to more human trafficking scams in the future, but the fact that he was even able to get off the plane here and onto our streets indicates that our governments want a certain amount of refugees to arrive. Probably because there is still a big need for low-wage labour.

Word spread around the world that the Canadian borders were wide open and that anybody could walk in and get money, free cash and free healthcare. A whole hell of a lot of them took advantage of that. Problem is, the govt let every singlemone of them in, but then promptly dropped them onto the laps of provinces and cities to deal with. Once the potential voter was on Canadian soil, trudeau didn't care anymore. He could just brag about how many the country took in. Plain and simple, there is not enough housing in Canada and food and cost of living are unaffordable for 75% of people living here. The refugees are better off packing up and going back to where they came from. Canada has nothing for its current residents and sure as hell has nothing for refugees or newcomers either. No jobs, no housing. Tens of thousands of Canadians are homeless. Refugees can get in line behind them for housing.

What plans do we have for these people? We have record immigration this year. A shortage of housing. Costs are going through the roof. Over half of new people come in leave with in 3 years because they can't afford to be here. The issue is Trudeau wants to look like a hero globally but like this guy said Canada is not what he was sold. Best answer for housing shortages, inflation and for these people that have no place to go. Stop all people coming in that for 5 years from everywhere to be fair. Will also be better for environmental reasons as less people less waste, less congestion. Do a reset then take a look at things then. Today I find why we have so many homeless is our present government has closed down all the offices homeless would go to to get help and a cheque. Nowadays it's all online. So, you need a cell, account, address to send bill too, data plan and hopefully after migrating the system you might get some money, oh! You need a bank account too. You think .any of these new refugees have all this? You can't just run down to the welfare office nowadays. I live in a small city, i chat with these nice folks, most cant afford a $200 cell phone and the office closed down. I get it. Horrible situation.This government needs someone who understands how to manage. Let's bring in 25,000, make sure they vote for me. Oh! No places for them to live, not my problem. Let the provincial guys figure it out, I'm to important to deal with details....Be well.

I moved to Canada a while ago. finished my bachelors, worked hard to pay for my rent, did internships to cover some of my tuition. Been through all the legal processes and now waiting to get permanent residency status. Spent years of hard work and suffering to be a part of this country. Maybe it would have been better if I just, you know, acted homeless in day 1. Everything would have been handed out to me instead.

what is he seeking asylum from, homelessness? at least when he's homeless in Canada, he can claim racism but not in Nigeria. sad to say, there is never enough money for you social justice warriors. the problem is you have more resources, more will come, then you'll need resources. they won't stop coming until every tree is chopped. they will always choose canada as long as there is money to be made, generousity to be given, resources to be captured, and the economy is better than their own country. they will keep coming until the last tree is chopped, the last mine is mined, the last pig is eaten, the last water is contaminated.
