There is always some kind of jealousy between the different talents singing groups!!Just do your best at what you do and stop the jealousy. God gave all of you beautiful voices to sing with. Sing and use it to your Best!!!

I like them both, but Aretha Franklin’s voice was so unique and Aretha played the piano and wrote music. That’s what made her the queen. She just didn’t sing the song she wrote the music and played the piano.❤

"B ~ A ~ B ~ Y," was a big, Soul Station, & Pop radio station hit. Had an original copy of her first LP, on Atlantic, with, "Gee Wiz." Purchased the first & third, "Complete Stax Singles," CD sets.* Other, multi ~ Disc compilations. She continued to have releases, such as, "Let Me Be Good To You." "I Like What You're Doing To Me." I imagine that these last were played on the Soul Music Stations, such as KGFJ, Los Angeles. Her duet with Otis Redding of Lowell Fulson's, "Tramp." was a big hit, probably more so than Lowell's! We frequently wonder why our favorite artists, `were not more successful.' Carla really didn't do too bad; keep in mind, that Otis never had a big, Pop Hit, during his lifetime. "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay," was released a brief time, after he passed. He was very influential: Three Dog Night copied his arrangement of the Standard, "Try A Little Tenderness," exactly, & had the big, Pop Hit. While Three Dog Night had three lead singers, who were good, Otis' version, vocal, is best, the most emotive, convincing. "Things Bee's This Way," in the Music Business! * ~ Didn't buy, Volume Two, as I purchased all of the hits, when they came out! Collections, Anthologies of the individual artists, such as The Dramatics. 😀😁

Why are Black people always pitted against each other? Why can't we love them both?

I love both(Aretha & Carla)! I don't think it's a Black people issue. I think it's largely human nature. I think it's human nature to see two or more people singing the same song or engaging in the same activity, and people are always going to side with one participant over another! The media plays a large role too. They make money from hype-frenzy, gossip and scandals!

Aretha was jealous of everybody she felt threatened by. Everyone from Diana Ross to Tina Turner. It's too bad because Aretha was the Queen with her magnificent voice but was always insecure.

You all forget. Aretha was just a better singer, Aretha was singing jazz on Columbia and getting no radio play while Carla was getting those hits, and her dad was a radio, Dj. How ever I am proud that these two women both had their dads backing them and trust me Aretha's dad promoted her in a big way also. Aretha was not jealous of Carla at all, Carla had nothing over her at all. When Aretha went to Atlantic records in 1967 it was all over for Carla... Listen to Carlas Albums they were not very good her voice had no range. I was a Carla fan had all of her albums but when Aretha Arrived It was over!!!!!! also Aretha was one of a very few who could change over from the 1960s sound into the 1970s sound. I would say we lost over 60 percent of soul singers in that transition.

It isn't, quite, true that Aretha had no radio airplay during her Columbia years. I heard her, "{Oh, No} I'm Losing You," & flip, "Sweet Bitter Love," on Los Angeles Radio Station, KGFJ, when these were released, & special ordered the, beautiful, Columbia LP with these songs, in addition to the single. Saw her lip sync to her, from memory, "Take Your Hat, Turn Around, Go Out The Door," on Lloyd Thaxton's TV show. {Most of her Columbia sides have been reissued on CD, & several of her Columbia LP's have been reissued on vinyl.} Her Columbia singles were, at best, only, `mid ~ chart hits,' didn't make much, if any, money; when she left this label, it said that she owed them money! At the time, `everyone knew that she was talented,' but Columbia really didn't know how to capitalize on this; the label was coming off of its, Mitch Miller era, & he hated Rock `N' Roll; I imagine that he wasn't fond of Black, Soul Music, either.* When Aretha went to Atlantic Records, her sisters {and Jerry Wexler} worked with her on the arrangement of her cover of Otis Redding's, "Respect," and this was, believe it or not, `originally just another album track, filler!' * ~ For example, although they were well ~ produced: Why listen to Aretha record covers of Dinah Washington's songs, when you can listen to: Dinah! 🤔🤨🤥

So, there was, only, room for ONE Black woman entertainer on the record label? "Gee Whiz" by Carla Thomas is as good as anything Aretha Franklin ever recorded!

@@obsocky779 at the end of the day you see how it played out. Carla had no more hits one Aretha came to muscle shoulds. She put her out of business. I love that gee whiz album but her vocals never were as good as Aretha. If they were , history would have been different.

Yes Aretha is great but she gobbled every soul diva songs she sang Fontella Bass’ Rescue Me on tv as well as recording hits by Baby Washington, Barbara Lynn, Mary Wells’ My Guy. She was desperate for a hit so yes she stole the limelight from these ladies so you’d forget about them and think of her! A big time gaslighter 😂
@MPardo-cx6jj
@MPardo-cx6jj 2 ай бұрын
On what show did you hear Aretha sing "Rescue Me?" Aretha NEVER sang "Rescue Me!" When Aretha sang songs of other singers while at Columbia, that wasn't due to Aretha being desperate or stealing anybody's songs, it was songs that producers pushed on Aretha, in an attempt to create hits!
