At almost 100 YEARS OLD this LIONEL train still works!! Talking about the Lionel 252 locomotive

Talking about my recently purchased YNL252 locomotive and 607 and 608 passenger cars from my research these date to the late 1920s probably 1926 or 27. It is amazing that these still work and works great a true testament to the craftsman that built these toys for multiple generations to enjoy.

Latch coupler , also it’s “ early “ because it’s got a “ strap “ headlight instead of the later cast headlight.

Went out and bought my son a Santa Fe Special to start off his official electric O gauge set, then I got jealous and bought a 252 off eBay to start off my collection 😅

From what I understand about these early versions or maybe even earlier? That these motors and the windings were covered by a silken insulation that kept the windings separated from each other. That's before they were using the enameled wiring of what we know today as motor winding insulation. I'm not sure of when in time, they changed over from the silk to enamel coatings?
