Considering the first twenty years of her amazing life, it seems inconceivable now that one could have ever entertained the thought that she was of the male gender. She has overcome great adversity in her seventy-one years to emerge as a talented writer, a font of information for all things royal and a delightful personality. As an opera lover, Lady C's 2 Verdi arias were a great pleasure & the story about the 3 tenors was quite moving. I agree with her about Met Opera productions being more authentic & my personal favourite performance of Brindisi was Juan Diego Florez & Diana Damrau. Not only beautifully sung, but convincing, as both are good actors & physically beautiful too. I recommend it. Their La Traviata is my favourite.

The story of Pavarotti and Domingo staging the three tenors to pay for Carreras treatment, sounds charming, but is sheer fantasy. Carreras, a wealthy and successful tenor, had completed his treatment by 1988, and already returned to the operatic stage by 1989, and set up his leukaemia foundation. The original “Three Tenors” was performed in Rome in 1990 at Terme di Caracalla, and several other concerts were performed.. It was a huge success, and proceeds went to the leukaemia foundation. The London concert was performed at Wembley stadium, not at Hyde Park.
