President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the offspring of two families whose roots stretched back to Ireland. His four grandparents left Ireland during the mid 19th century. He was America's first Irish - Catholic President so that is why there are memorials to him in Ireland. Patrick Kennedy emigrated from Dunganstown in County Wexford, Ireland, in 1848 during the Irish Famine. The Fitzgerald side from Limerick and Cavan emigrated to the USA around the same timeframe to escape the poverty of Irish rural life.

You can use the waterways Marina car parks in Southern Ireland. There is a card you can buy in the local shop nearby to use the toilets and showers

Limerick aire is closing on 1 Sept. The marina in cork use to allow camper parking over night but they had trouble with people living full time in vans and the vans got so run down they couldn't be driven away.
