Why is there a barrier wall at the end of the runway?! Runways should lead off into flat land for a significant distance.
@anthonymathews38722 күн бұрын
Why are there not safety nets like the Aircraft Carriers have, or escape sand-filled escape lanes like the HGV's have?
@billrosmus67342 күн бұрын
When I saw the actual video this was my exact question. The pilot did a great job landing it without landing gear. Then there is some almighty barrier that killed them. Inferior thinking that went into this. The airport designers should be held liable as much as anyone. And if the excuse (not reason) is that there are homes or something else at the end of the runway, well it's no excuse. Poor site location; and if they people with the money were the reason, they should also be held liable. This didn't need to happen.

It is very unprofessional to have a 'fire chief' telling the world why the air crash happened just hours after the accident. And absurd to suggest that bird strikes could have taken down the hydraulics which have built-in redundancies or to label a beautiful clear sky as 'bad weather'. I suppose he did not want to be outdone by birds causing shrapnel damage earlier in the week.

Very odd accident. No flaps deployed. 2800 m Runway but landed at the end of it... Maybe trouble with BOTH engines, otherwise they would keep on flying to burn off fuel. Never make belly landing with full fuel tanks.
@Bungle-UK3 күн бұрын
Reverse thrust was deployed so at least one engine was working.
@GabroPlayz3 күн бұрын
I'm not too sure if a bird strike can get the whole landing gear system to malfunction. I think it likely was a hydraulic failure somewhere in the B737 that helped the landing gear extend. RIP to all who've died in this tragedy.
@Kam-go3bc3 күн бұрын
Or pilots got flustered and made some bad decisions after the birdstrike. It doesn't seem like they told ATC their landing gear had malfunctioned?
@Bungle-UK3 күн бұрын
Bird strike is the usual media lie….they said that about the Azerbaijan crash too.
@jungleboy13 күн бұрын
normally crashes are a series of events. I doubt it was just 1 issue, the bird strike may have been part of other factors.

Boeing at it again 🙄
@jhowardsupporter2 күн бұрын
By malfunction they mean didn't function. So yes a bird could cause that. If while landing the pilot was distracted by the bird and forgot to extend the landing gear this would happen.

Some genius built a thick reinforced concrete wall in line with the runway to hold antennas!!! Hitting that wall is what tore the jet to pieces, killing nearly everyone. Pilot error forgot to lower the landing gear, which can be done by hand if needed, in a 737.

There should be no concrete walls at the end of runways 😮😮😮

At most airports around the world, there are usually fields at the end of the runway. I don't see why South Korea have added a literal wall at the end of that runway..

There are concrete walls at the end of runways obvs. Sometimes the YT comments will be false.
@luca40972 күн бұрын
@@capndallas4918 No, this is unusual to have a reinforced concrete wall right at the end of the runway. Usually these walls are bricked concrete, which a plane would plow through… with minimal damage

if the plane could not open the landing gear, then why not fly around first/making decisions with the tower before gambling on the landing? the communication with the tower should have taken place and if the official telling the public its bird strike/bad weather, it's totally a political agenda we are facing here. its either 100% malfunction, or its intended to crash like that

the cause of it blowing up is the strength of the wall at the end of the runway that supports radar being made of unnecessarily thick concrete.

Birds or no birds…Not the main Q. Why put a solid concrete wall at the end of the runway when there is a field behind?

Concrete barrier at the end, now that is so tragic, should like most runways have runoff grasslands. Still with over 150,000 flights per day worldwide is the most safest form of transport.

If the landing gear wont deploy is it ever a good idea to skid down a runway with a barrier at the end? Couldn’t they have tried a water landing somewhere to have more room to slow down?
@Gmancro9292 күн бұрын
Absolutely no need for water landing.. Just needed to follow the check list for type of malfunction and not be in a rush.. Its very long runway.. 99 out of 100 pilots would land this perfectly fine but unfortunately if it can happen there is always a chance to happen so it happened and water landing wouldn't help if pilot is unable to follow checklist he wouldn't be able to land on water aswell..

Was it a huge bird? Did it hit the cockpit window and kill the pilots? Did a passenger take over and try to safely land it? Why was the landing gear not deployed? Why were the engines running full power? Why were control surfaces not in landing configuration? Why didn't it land near the other end of the runway? How many more questions are there... Example: What makes clueless people declare with assumed authority that a bird could not possibly cause this?

The Airport in South Korea, Muan Airport, heavily supported by Democratic Party politicians in South Korea for political reasons. They said it was projected to serve 9.8 million passengers per year during its planning stages, but the actual annual passenger count has only reached 260,000, approximately 2.5% of the original estimate. The airport is located in an area densely surrounded by migratory bird habitats, which has made it particularly vulnerable to bird strikes, ranking #1 in such incidents nationwide. Despite its significant deficits and safety concerns, the airport was constructed to appeal to local voters. This might be an important background for this plane crash, as its condition and preparation are quite different from the major airports like Incheon and Kimpo. Extremely sad news.

@Youraveragetwicefanboyshe forgot to mention that a Russian drone disguised as a bird was ingested by number 2 engine causing the hydraulic system to fail which in turn locked the undercarriage in the upright position and jammed both engines to full power which then caused the pilots to decide to land and skid the plane into the wall at the end of the runway to help them stop the forward progress of the plane.
