@@rayray4192 but the act of moving those runners would only happen when the ball wasn't live. Umpires have the right to overturn the call but the act of them calling a ball foul instantly makes the ball dead. On top of this umpires can only review a fair foul call only if the ball lands at or beyond where the third and first base umpire is located. the ball didn't exceed that point which means it's an unreviewable play and the ball is dead do to the foul call. There has never been an instance where the ball has been declared dead and then allowed play to keep going (MLB Level). This is why umpires are trained to wait because the second they gesture foul it kills the play.

Not saying his call was good, but catcher did look back as well, which may have been who he saw look back as well. Sun must have just been bad, and from experience as an umpire, a majority of foul balls you aren't going to ever find the ball since you loose track of it behind you. That said, when there's a runner on base, especially 3rd, you can't screw it up like this or else you could potentially take away a run

I've not done this. Bit, I did have a flyback and players gathered around waiting for it to come down from the fly. I called the batter out pretty positive one out of the four would catch it. Nope. Not alone tried and it fell between them. Yeah I was a little premature in that call. As here. No harm no found she called a foul ball that was still caught in the infield.

"hand smacking my head." Thats a dead ball. Umpire called it foul and must be ruled as one. no out just a strike. This is why you wait. It's the same thing if you had a swing bunt on a ball that has top spin in foul territory that then comes back fair if you call it foul before the ball stops moving it's a foul ball even if it rolls fair. (correction) with the verbalized foul, it makes the ball dead when it hits the ground (even if it lands fair), being the ball is in the air it still can have a play on it. Still "hand smack in my head" because if that balls dropped it just makes this whole thing messy. When in doubt shut your mouth and don't say anything. It's better to make the call late then too early.
