I love these short stories by M.R. James and particularly E.F. Benson. Who knew the author of Mapp and Lucia could write such frightening, strange, and interesting supernatural thrillers. Wonderful reading of these stories Greg. :)

Great Story, is prosaic and efficient. Creepy and hopeful, at once. Thank you so much 🎩🙏🏽❤️🌙

Here from Radio Mirchi Sunday Suspense 🥰🥰.. I heard the Bengali version of this horror thriller last week and now listening to its original version from you. Both versions are Engaging and flamboyant as usual. ☺😇☺😇

Wonderful as usual. What I don't understand is why there is almost 12,000 views and only 178 likes. Deserves many more. Thank you for your quality audio books.

Good question! Perhaps people are so depressed at the end that they forget. It's a bit of downer, this story, as I recall.

@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Yes, it is. But if there was ever a story that would convince someone to quit drinking, this is it; Benson really catches perfectly the contempt and aversion one ends up feeling for a drunken partner.

This even reminds me of The Turning of the Screw - who can tell with certainty what kind of woman his wife really was, and why?!? Brilliantly interpreted, Mr. Wagland, thanks again!

I love the way you don't judge the woman really I'm more like Eeehh Huge bloated head on a skinny wrinkled body with clawed hands like birds feet Oh No. A spade is a spade but it could've been made from a shovel : ) Thanks really enjoyed.

Benson was great at ghost stories, the one about the tower is frightening

Yes. Excellent narration . Much better than the story deserves ! Benson was a plodding , unoriginal scribbler . Anyone who compares him to M R James or Le fanu is deluded .
@davidwhite7294 Жыл бұрын
That,s just your opinion. The Mapp and Lucia stories are magnificent and place him a league above Mister James who,s stories are turgid rehashings of conventional ghost stories. Lost Hearts is the only one that has any oomph and it’s it is so strikingly different from his other works that myself and many others feel that someone else wrote it.. Try HR Wakefields grown up version of“Casting the Runes“ called“He Cometh and He Passeth by“ Casting the Runes is insipid by comparison.

As regards Le Fanu he,s a one hit wonder. Carmilla was great but l find his other stories poorly written and his style clunky and turgid.

Yes ! It's verging on the pathological ! Fortunately his turgid , tedious , overblown writing " style ".....if that's the right word ?....means he's virtually forgotten today !
