I see a bunch of people complaining about the production but I actually like it, I thought the last album was way too overproduced and glossy sounding, this is a little rawer and I think it lets the music breathe more and not feel so stiff. It doesn't have quite the muscle and sharpness to it that Slaughter of the Soul had, but it's not bad by any means.

The production is perfect combination of old taste with newer technology but not making it sound 'plastic' and fake. Even my xtian coworkers who dont like metal love this album. I'm convinced it's only because the vocals aren't drowning out the instruments as happens in basically every DM album

I miss that early sound. Thankfully this still isn't as straightforward as Slaughter of the soul, which every bland "melodic metalcore" band ripped off shamelessly. Shadows fall, All that remains, Killswitch engage... etc. Alf Svennson was the reason that those first 2 albums were so unique. He was replaced by Martin Larsson beginning with Terminal spirit disease, and it's noticeable.
