This is probably the first survival Horror game ever made. Used to play this a lot when I was a kid. The game has 3 floors in the house. You pick up only one of the three items, keys(open doors), Sceptre to ward off evil spirits, and urm. You must avoid, bats, ghosts, and tarantulas. If you get hit by monsters 9 times, the game is over. If you escape the house, you win the game. The items can be seen if the player hits the fire button, which can be done infinite number of times. There are a total of nine levels. -

My favorite memory of this game was the day my sister had the urn together and had almost reached safety when the bat struck her, snuffing out her last life and stealing the urn. She yelled, "Sh*t!" just as our mother was entering the family room. Mom's mouth dropped open in horror. and her eyes opened wide. She turned without a word and left.

... why is it you get the whole urn on the 2nd floor, but then spend two whole minutes going all the way up to the 4th floor bumping into walls (apparently trying to go up to a non-existent 5th floor) and dropping and picking up the urn repeatedly, instead of immediately going back down to the 1st floor and the exit?

I just started randomly thinking of the sounds from this game. Had to see it again. I think the last time I played this was in ‘88, right before I got the NES for Christmas that year. Once that NES was in, never went back to the 2600. But I got about 5 years out of this game. I remembered the sounds perfectly.

+Legion Beast three parts of a holy urn but yes. There's also a scepter you can hold that protects you from the monsters (but then you can;t carry the urn) and the goal is to make it out while using the least amount of matches you can. On the highest difficulty level the game randomizes where the stairs are and adds locked doors.

+Legion Beast Yes, but what's shown in this video is the easiest version of the game. Starting with Game Variation 2, the walls are dark and doors block off being able to see what's in the next room. Starting with game variation 3, some doors are locked, and you have to either find your way around or use a key (but you can't hold the key and any other object at the same time). And so on, up to game 9, which has a different layout of locked doors from the other games, monsters that chase you from room to room (even through locked doors), a ghost who is immune to the scepter, five monsters in the mansion instead of three, and other changes that make the whole thing very frantic, despite the simple graphics.

This game is fun once you master the layouts and location of objects. I managed to beat Game 8 and eventually 9. Although this is back in 1982, I find this game actually scarier than modern horror games like FNAF. Pitch black with almost no sound, and enemies can literally catch you by surprise. I don't like that he's only playing Game 1, which is the training mode.

I can't believe it took you four minutes to figure out how to turn on your light. This is the most basic level of the game. On higher levels, you deal with locked doors all over the places, and only one life.

You can't escape the haunted house until you find all 3 pieces of the urn and then get to the main door out. Each piece you collect (as I recall, maybe its time) the game gets harder. On harder difficulties of the game there are locked doors you can't open until you unlock them with a key which also must be found first (and remember you can only carry 1 item). The last item is a scepter which makes you invisible to enemies, but you can't go through locked doors or assemble the urn holding it.

Pretty much you have to find the three pieces to the urn. Hitting the button on the joystick (not called a controller) lights a match so you can see the pieces. The scepter keeps the enemies away but you drop the other pieces. If the ghost gets near you the wind effect blows your match out. Then you must escape the house. The harder levels you couldn't see the walls or doors were locked. Atari was very simple back then. Not many hard games.

That's not how you play it. The "real" mode is the second one, with all the walls darkened. You are just on the practice mode.

You search the haunted house to assemble the trophy or whatever it is, once it's assembled you can leave (the front door on the first floor). I don't believe you can see the items until you use matches, but being near monsters causes the wind to blow out the matches burn out over time. There's also kind of a powerup that I forget what it does, but you don't need it and you can only carry one object at a time (the power up or the trophy/urn).
