Atari 7800 : DONKEY KONG [homebrew]

this is a fantastic home-brew programmed version not the release version. available at Atariage.com
POKEY sound added for arcade quality music too, another feature the Atari 7800 should have always had, this shows off how good the forgotten Atari console handles arcade conversions. While I did own the release 7800 game I would have definitely have purchased this version had it been available in the 80s

Problem with the 7800 is that they didn’t ship with the Pokey chip on the console itself. If you wanted the better sound, you had to put a pokey chip on the cartridges. It’s weird 5200 had okay graphics, great sounds. 7800 had good graphics, but terrible sound

Demostrares how underrated the 7800 was, though released too late. If the 7800 had been released in place of the 5200 around 82 or 83, Atari may have fared better against the NES and CV

It would have been much better if they'd have put the Pokey chip in it for sound. Business colleges should offer 400 level courses on Atari in the 80's titled, "Lessons of Incompetence and Failure."

The Atari 7800 was ready in 1984 and was shelved in the warehouse by Jack Tramiel when he left Commodore and took over Atari, wanting to focus only on computers. The 7800 languished until Atari saw the success of the NES in late 1985/1986 and then hurriedly rushed the existing 7800 units to market.

The 7800 was released to late and may have helped Atari stay afloat. The Donkey Kong graphics on the 2600 were crap!!
