Atari Jaguar PRON - discussion, RGB, 60hz mod and gameplay

Great video mate, liked the little walk down nostalgia lane, I remember being well excited about the jaguar at the time of launch, it's shame it didn't work out.Nice console spec wise. Jeff Minter has a new Tempest coming out for the vita, looks great.

Bloody I phone battery ran out half way through!! It was interesting hearing about when you first picked up your Jaguar,I had a friend who also bought the system early on and some of the games (especially Alien vs Predator) were pretty mind blowing back then! :)

The system is definitely worth owning for the two titles you mentioned, plus I would say the title Rayman as well. I had one in the shop I used to run back in the day, but sold it when I closed the shop sadly, just could not afford to keep it at the time. Would love to get another one, just have not been lucky enough to come across one for a reasonable price. It is good to know they are multi-region, did not know that and that it is easy to make them run at 60Mhz.

Agreed.... Rayman on the Jag is pretty much a classic, looks and plays great too.

Great Vid I remember my brother had a Jaguar and it was a lot of fun. I fondly remember avp and tempest. Wolfenstein was great with its upgraded graphics from the PC version. We got rid of it as it broke twice when we got Doom for it. Turned out that the Doom cart was dodgy and was breaking the cart pins inside the jaguar. Ended up exchanging it for a 3do.... :-)

Great vid as usual. Back in the day I spent the $50 to buy an Atari branded Svideo cable for it. It really made a nice difference for my Sony Wega TV but I really need to get an SCART cable for it some day.

Not sure the RGB upgrade from svideo would be 100% worth it..... but if you want the best. :-D

People always loved to hate the Jag.. but I always loved it.. has a handful of really great games you can't get anywhere else.

Absolutely..... some hidden gems (or perhaps not that hidden) and really is worth buying for it's handful of greats imo.

The game cartridges with the included 'e' extension will run at full screen and speed also without any modification.

Nice - I've never ever been very interested in the Atari Jaguar... and wasn't that bothered about anything ever shown on it - well except for Tempest 2000 & AvP ;-) PCE SuperGrafx had a similar dead on the shelf story and an even smaller library ... but even with 60hz RGB and those two games you mentioned i'd still not swap my SuperGrafx for a Jaguar mate - lol XD

Noooo! Scary Pliers!! lol Good vid, but I would personally just have put a blob of solder on the iron, then you can heat both sides of the resistor easily and gently pry it off the glue. Could risk lifting the pads otherwise. Bought myself a Jaguar a few weeks ago. It had the usual power IC popped, so I hooked it up directly to a 5V supply and it's working well. Only have Cybermorph atm, as it was one of the cheapest carts on eBay. :p You've inspired me to make up and RGB cable and try the 60Hz mod now.

It was pretty low risk tbh. Give the 60hz and RGB mod a go... you won't regret it I'm sure.

Cheers, I'll try that soon. I was going to bid on one of those Skunkboards for the Jag the other day, but it went for £150! All the PCB details and source code has been released now, so it may be worth getting a new batch of boards made up?

£900 Panasonic video camera..... utilising manual exposure, shutter speed, white balance and focus (to get the best CRT capture).

Nice vid I subbed. Im a hardcore Jag fan since 1994 :). There are 9 games on the jaguar that are really great and affordable. :) They are Alien vs Predator, Doom, Wolfenstein 3d, Iron Soldier, Tempest 2000, Zool 2, Super Burnout, Cybermorph and Raiden. There are many more good and great games on Jag but are more expensive. Such as Rayman, Defender 2000, Battlesphere, Hyperforce, Cannon Fodder, Syndicate, NBA Jam, Protector, and many more. I find it quite amazing how people still continue to believe that hardware makes consoles / platforms therefore meaning better games. Nintendo's demonstrated time and time again that it's really just about titles and gameplay. They've always had weaker hardware but continue to win.
