I remember playing blue lighting on my dad's friends Lynx at his 40th birthday in 1990 and this blew me away

Great review. In the early 90's I bought a Lynx version 2 for $60us and only owned three games California Games, Pinball and Toki Going Ape Spit and were pretty fun. Since I couldn't find a place to buy more games I traded it for an SNES at a local game store.

I love the fact the original Lynx, when it gets scratched, you get this silver stuff underneath, so it looks like battle damage :D But I do wonder if the machine was originally meant to be silver?

When you were playing Rampage it sounded like there were 2 speakers inside the single speaker grill. It's stupid putting 2 speakers in the same grill as it's stereo but the 2 speakers are not seperated enough to get a wide spectrum of sound.

I found a model 2 last night in perfect condition with the box, for less than $100. It also came with California Games and a case with the slots for games. I traded mine to a friend for a Game Gear way back when, and I've missed it since.

People complain about not being able to see the screen on this system with the backlight off, but they missunderstand the function of the backlight off button. The idea was to switch the backlight off when you pause the game to save power, it was never intended to be used with the backlight off :o) Get duracell ultra batteries and it lasts a very long time, Interesting how rampage is dated 86 when it's before it was released!! shows the long history of the lynx development :o)

I never rated the lynx before i got an atari lynx 2 a few months ago, I love it now and it never gets any rest from people playing it at work, they say it's so addictive!! Do you have problems getting the batteries out of the atari lynx 2? I find it a right pain!! The thing is that it lasted 6-7 hours on the batteries back then, run it on modern batteries and it runs for a lot longer :o)

I have the Lynx II and I really like it, one problem with the early (flat) game cards is that at least on my Lynx II and with my copy of Electrocop, the card goes in both ways, unlike the later cards with the curved top, they only go in one way. Has anyone else had that problem. One other problem with the Lunx is that they're not made very well, they break very easily, expecilly the AC Adaptor socets on the Lynx II.

Nice review, but what's up with the 'don't get this game' when pointing at Bill&Ted? Perhaps it's boring while playing it alone, but in my opinion in multiplayer this is the game to beat. I've been playing it for hours with a friend of mine (when we weren't playing Slime World, Basketbrawl, Ice Hockey and Checkered Flag)

I still have this system. Unfortunately Atari never could get sufficient number of games to keep it as a viable option. But I still enjoy it to this day. Never had a problem with the battery life. I almost always used the power cord. And had a nice carrying case which transported it with my cache of 40 games in style. Xybots, Rygar, Gates of Zendecon, Slime World, Turbo Sub, Chips Challenge were a ton of fun. There are others.

I got an Atari Lynx a year and a Half ago, it's a model one and I didn't know it was common to find it with the paint worn off as in mine the paint is still not worn, I got it with the pouch bag. It's an amazing system and Actually I was scared by the people telling me that it was going to eat batteries like crazy but the thing actually lasts more than I thought, the only thing in which I disagree with you is the sound, it may be mono but at least in mine its loud as hell!

Checkered Flag is pretty good. It's basically a clone of Virtua racing, and it runs very smoothly. Warbirds, and Turbo Sub are really cools games as well. It's fun to collect for, and you can get most of the games really cheap.

Lynx is MUCH more powerful than the Game Gear. Sega's Game Gear was bassically just their 8-bit Sega Master system console shrunk down into a portable.system. The Atari Lynx was 16-bit. For games that utilized the system, Lynx was capable of doing some really cool zooming in and out effects, creating really cool 3D effects. 1989 launch games like Electro cop show this. A Lynx game called Battle Wheels REALLY shows this. Some other games even used basic polygons for graphics (like Steel Talons)
@johneymute14 жыл бұрын
the atari lynx was a extreamly superpowerfull hardware for it,s time,i cut even do things like sprite scaling and polygons wich even the snes can,t do without a fxchip. the game yosis island used the fx chip for sprite scaling,polygons and increasing speed.

I have the model 2. One difference between the two models is that the model 1's headphone jack wasn't wired for stereo, whereas it was with the model 2. You showed the card for Checkered Flag. The Lynx version is 100 x better than the Jag version. Trust me on that. :) STAY AWESOME! :)
