Atari ST Goes MAGNUM! Ocean’s 4-Hit Game Multi-Disk Pack!

Magnum 4 is a 1990 #Ocean game compilation released for the #AtariST. We excitedly purchased this pack in 1990 from an import shop here in California, but as we did mostly in the late 80’s and 90’s got rid of the box and instructions.
The games in the self described GIANT Multi-Disk Pack are
Batman The Caped Crusader, After Burner, Operation Wolf and Double Dragon.
The Magnum pack as a whole is a very nice collection of the better, but not the best #Atari ST licensed games from 1988.
We use Cyberlink 365 Video, Photo and Audio Software

I just love Dave Lowe's chip tunes. His instruments suit very well for the YM2149F. One of the best things in After Burner for sure ;) Was also impressed back in time for the cut scene where the F-14 Tomcat landed for refueling. Double Dragon was our favorite along with Gauntlet II when we got the Power Pack powered 520ST with my brother. We played hundreds of hours of DD in two player mode. And the sunset at the bridge in later levels was one of the ST graphics wow-moments for us back in the day.

Oh man! Now we know what the hell is the vertical blank! I love it. We are the 2nd half of the Generation X, but we prefer to call it the Vertical Blank. 😄Oh heah.

Cool video! It’s great to see coverage on ST games. I graduated from the Atari 8-bit to the ST line, but for some unknown reason, I don’t have a lot of gaming memories on the ST outside of playing Rogue, Empire, and Speedball and drooling over all the press around Sundog and Spectrum Holobyte’s F-16 sim.

Never heard about this pack before, it had to be a good option in 1988. For me, this 4 games are not brillant, but I understand the importance when it came out. I played DD a lot with the power pack, specially in two player mode, it has’nt aged well, but I have to admit I spent hours with it. Afterburner was impressive when I was 13, but I forgot it quickly. I never played Operation Wolf with my ST, but maybe is not the best conversion, if I watch it nowadays. And Batman was very attractive for me, I loved the graphics, but never really got into it. I think it’s the best of this 4 games. As you kmow, I’m not a big Ocean’s fan 😅, but I love this video!

I think you’re right in the conclusion. Deff the best game here but I also found myself agreeing about Afterburner. It’s easy to “look back” and judge wrongly. You did it how I do, and look back at a game for that moment in time. And I think in 88 we would all have loved it. Ofc we must also look at it through today’s eyes & it’s … aged! That Batman game never did anything for me. Watching you trying to punch lol

Completely agree. I like that too. I also like to compare games to what was available at the time to give correct perspective. One thing many people also these days forget, is that 16bit console versions, while they usually are far more superior gaming experiences, were also extremely expensive in the early 90's. Here in Finland I could have bought 2-4 ST games for the price of one Sega or Nintendo game in the early 90's.

That Batman game! It actually looks really good, but they needed to add some good game play to it. I do really like the Batman the Movie Game for the ST though.

Nice compilation here, not the best like you say, but still a good game combo. I'll never understand why people still throws manuals and boxes in the bin after paying lots of money for the whole game's package.
