hi, another tip, when de-soldering using the wig, use a bit of flux it will do some "magic", also I prefer not to lift the wig from the pad, rather slide it away to not to lift the pad. Another entertaining video, I like to listen to your voice.

Excellent work on the refurb! I am amazed by the transformation. Wow! 👍 Really appreciate all you are doing to keep the vintage tech alive. The way you explain the process is also very informative and I really enjoy how you show the technical steps such as eeprom programming, soldering and PSU replacement. The Atari 1040ST was my 2nd computer (1st was Atari 800XL), so it makes me so happy to see these machines given a second life. Keep up the fantastic work! 👏🏆🥳💯

great work. my first Atari was a 1040STF exactly like that one. When it went to silicon heaven it had 4mb ram and twin 720k FDDs inside the case. i replaced the power and data cables for the floppy and added sockets so i could just create dual cabling for the twin drives. i vagally recollect i used Sony drives as they were lower power consumption. on top of that it was sprayed black with metal flake then lacquered. thank you for keeping them alive..

Great to see the rom splitting procedure documented on KZbin. Might be good to mention that Atari floppies are compatible with PCs to make file transfers easy (unless I missed it). Great, comprehensive video!

So long as the PC can write to 720k floppies (not many USB floppy drives can) or the Atari can read 1.44mb floppies (Mega STe, TT and Falcon can generally)

I just added one of those Meanwell PSUs to my STe. Mine is the 50 Watt version. I rotated mine clockwise 90° so the wires get covered up by the keyboard and I insulated the mains connections with hot glue, because my cat has a habit of jumping on my workbench and currently I'm testing out a PiSTorm on my machine, so the top case is often removed right now.

Nice work on the the Meanwell. I've used both the RD50 and RD35 and both work great with the ST's. I go for the 35 just because it is smaller and still has more 5V output than the base PSU's.

If you're in Europe, the guy behind Sidecartridge (a.k.a. Sidecart) does a PSU replacement kit based on the Mean Well RPD-60A PSU. It has a mounting plate and all the required cables, making the installation a breeze (no soldering required). I've been contemplating getting a GOEX since that gives you a preprogrammed Gotek and a mount that fits into the ST. However, I like the mount that you were using with the space for the rotary knob and OLED panel. Maybe I'll give that a go if I ever get my 3D printer working properly again.

I've bought a couple of sidecarts from him before (I love the device). The PSU option he has is a great one! The GOEX is a great device as well. It is a well designed and quite easy to set up. The Gotek is a bit more labor intensive...but I do like the project aspect of setting it up.

Watching you wire in the mains wires to the new PSU and I think you've probably triggered everyone that uses that 3 wire mains cable! Blue is always neutral, brown is always live

@@powerofvintage9442 it has confused people for years. We used to have black and red but that standard is long gone but was perhaps more intuitive. At least we all agree on the earth colours

I believe it may have changed in much of Europe for colour blind assistance. I know of the old colours, but have always used the brown/blue through my adult life (fast approaching 60).

I just put a meanwell 65 in the mega you upgraded for me. It is the same as the 50d but has an additional -12v so i can power the VGA card.

Nope, you can't watch KZbin on an Atari...I guess if I replaced the motherboard with a Raspberry Pi 5 or other such you could do it. Take a look at my video on "what I do with Atari ST's". The TLDR is that it's all about the nostalgia and fixing things.
