In this video, we're going to clear a few things up from the last video, talk about some of the comments from you guys, and show you a great new way to get comfortable on the coms. And just in case you're wondering, this is for VFR flight. Lots of great tips for talking to ATC for your private pilot license.

This was a fun video to make. I just wanted to clarify one thing before I get blasted for it. When we were talking about clearance delivery, we were talking about VFR traffic only. Some class D airports share their ground frequency as clearance delivery for IFR traffic, and we're well aware of that. =)

Hi, when I was preparing for radio communication certificate during my PPL training, I started with a few apps myself. But what really helped me, was talking with a real person for training. You can do that over the internet ... thats almost perfect. Those apps might be a good start to practice your lingo, but talking to a real person, who might say things maybe a little different, who might ask even something out of the ordinary, thats when you get the better training. I had the great chance to train with a former ATC senior. With his vast experience he got pretty creative. I think, I coudn't have wished for a better prep.
@flywiththeguys
@flywiththeguys 4 жыл бұрын
I'll agree with you on that one. The app really helps you known what to say, and how things should work. In the real world things can be different, or the controller would rather you say it in a different way.

I enjoy reviewing Your videos and wish we had this kind of information when i was learning to fly. I was Blessed to have wonderful Civilian and Military CFIs. The two hardest things for me to learn were landings and communications! I’m getting a little hard of hearing and the ATC folks are understanding, courteous, and wonderful to work with!! I love all the advances in Technology in Flying, in Medicine, and all facets of our Lives! Thank You for All the information You Provide with Your Videos! I do not get to fly as much as I would like and your videos help refresh my skills and remind me how Blessed I am to learn to Fly!!

I just started flying (2.5 Hrs). My instructor has been doing all the radio so far. Radio communication is veery intimidating for me, especially because English is not my first language. Before watching this video, I was crossing my fingers to find an app or other source to help me practice. I guess I was lucky to ran into your video. Thank you for your video, and the great advices.

Thank you for your videos! Next week I'm going to Florida from Russia to start my education as a private pilot. I want to pass the written test without GS (i learn theory at home and have stable 70%+ result in tests). But I can't understand the principle separation of airspace to Classes. I mean I understand that there is A, B,C, D, E, G classes, but may be there is some "rule of thumb" to separate them?
@flywiththeguys
@flywiththeguys 4 жыл бұрын
There are some great drawings out there to help you understand them. type in airspace rules in google and checkout images. There's lots there and some great diagrams to help understand them better. What you really need to know is visibility and cloud clearance requirements for each one. and G is a pain because it depends on altitude.

@flywiththeguys
@flywiththeguys Жыл бұрын
Request would be better IMO. I usually say "requesting taxi." Granted today I didn't say that at all. I gave who I was talking to, who I was, where I was, told them my departure direction, and with what information. Thats it, no request for taxi. In reality, they know you want to taxi so technically it can go unsaid. Unless thats all your asking for. Like Taxi to runup area for testing, or taxi to self serve fuel. Granted that last one would be reposition... you get the idea.

I believe you can increase the apps speech speed in the settings, but I know what you mean. The advice on slowing the speed of speech cuts both ways. I've heard countless recordings of controllers talking too fast and then having to repeat it all again, only slower. I think they are more often guilty of this than pilots. But then again, we can't change them; we can change us.
