ATC SCM40A with CA2 preamp

I wonder if you would advise me. I was looking at the ATC 40 passives with their integrated amplifier. Everyone points me to the actives in combo with their preamp. However I note that many listeners have observed that you need to play the actives at higher volumes to really appreciate them. I happen to live in an apartment and personally I do not like playing music loud. Classical, latin, jazz and easy listening music is what I listen to. I don't like heavy bass which is why I prefer UK as opposed to US loudspeakers. Your view would be appreciated.

Is there any shrillness from the mid driver?

It does not shrill that much but I could do with a little bit more bass.

@@nespressoman my mistakes Jim. I thought you were referring to the highs. The mids are excellent actually. To be frank, the only part that is missing is the level of slamming bass that I enjoy with my PMC. If ATC have that as well, its a complete package to me.

@@ElHefe Sorry, it is my mistake as I did not make myself clear. I just meant to ask if the mid and top end are "sweet" and no shrillness. My B&W's can be a bit "forward" sometimes. Thanks again.
