On a popularity point. ATEEZ is from a small production company. Their growth as a group is spectacular, because in the k-pop space there’s 4 giant pillar production companies that dominate the industry. Big company guarantees more promotion opportunities and more visibility obviously. Both Ateez and Stray kids are more popular internationally than back in Korea, at least that’s how they started, obviously now they are very popular back home too. They debuted within the same year, and both had a reputation of producing “noisy” and “loud” music, not typical for the k-pop sound. And although Stray kids is from the big pillar company they faced a lot of hate about their sound. It’s so funny, cause now ATEEZ and Stray Kids are considered leaders of k-pop in their generation- 4th generation leaders.

The term "popularity" within K-pop is complicated, but objectively Stray Kids is generally more popular than ATEEZ in terms of global recognition, album sales, streams, and social media. Although skz is a recognized group today, it has taken them a long time to get to what they are today, so even though they are less "mainstream" in musical terms, their popularity is on the rise more than anything globally...They always went for a more different sound and it was not very appealing to the Korean public, luckily they kept with their style and today they achieved several achievements and recognition. Other groups that I could name more popular than skz could be bts blackpink who, although they have some songs that are more appealing to the general public, also have their own personality... In k-pop there is a lot of effort for each group to obtain personality and concept, so it is quite common for them to be original, but not so for them to stand out on a large scale as in the case of those named... Another thing, in kpop in general it is very common for several genres to be explored (it does not mean that everyone does it well).. some groups do the genres that are fashionable in each era in some cases.. If you would like to listen to a more generic or popular kpop like what you think for comparison, I could recommend enhypen, txt, bts (recent years) or girl groups like; Ive, new jeans, leesserafim... idk there are millions of groups out there, already they will seem different to you because it changes a lot compared to normal pop... but it is true that there are many more that go down that generic path of pop sound and not so experimental... I really like kpop in general and I also love groups that make traditional pop, but it is true that I am a fan of skz for their distinctive sound... I'm sorry this is so long but it's very complicated to answer the qs about popularity and sound in a single sentence when kpop itself is a huge, never-ending industry

As the other comments said, this album has a lot of latino influence. The World series that everyone is recommending is a lot darker, more grunge, which closer to their usual sound. But for me I associate pirate music /sea shanties with them because of their earlier sound (Songs like Wonderland, Horizon, Answer, Pirate King, etc.) Thank you for taking your time to give Ateez a listen! Dude, I loved your Stray Kids reviews; I’m so excited you’re getting into Ateez! I’m a nearly-forty pop-punk and rock fan and Ateez and Stray Kids have me in a chokehold. Ateez’s “World” albums (there are three) will probably be most up your alley but, to be honest, they just make great music. Just make sure that after “World EP. 1: Movement” you listen to the “Spin Off: Witness EP”. World EP. 1: Movement has a song called Guerrilla is aptly titled and a stunning track, but it’s important to know (it was for me, at least) that Guerrilla takes place in the dystopian side of Ateez’s lore and is from the perspective of Ateez fighting a government that has outlawed emotion and creative expression and “Halazia”, from “Spin Off: Witness, is from the perspective of the dying underground resistance movement after the guerrilla campaign failed. This is important because in Halazia, that dying underground movement is USING MUSIC, different beats and genres, TO TRY TO WAKE UP the masses of people who are living without emotion (because the government won the war and has outlawed emotion). It makes for a fascinating song! My very favorite, in fact. All of that is to say, Halazia blew my mind and I hope you enjoy it!

Welcome to Ateez! The band has a very strong lore/storyline and they release their albums in story arcs, with each arc having at least 3 albums, then some spinoffs and Japanese albums. So far we have 4 major arcs: Treasure, Fever, The World and Golden Hour is starting which you've listened to here. Their sound is very varied and they explore a lot of genres. The World has been my favorite arc so far, but I love their whole discography.

By the way, one tip for your "safety", Kpopers usually don't like comparisons between Kpop groups, some fans get in the worse behaviour possible when that happens, some fandoms more than others, so if you are going to explore more Kpop groups just be aware and either avoid it or if you don't care just be aware. that some people could get nasty, you are a great guy and I would hate your experience is ruined by that stuff. Also about popularity it's hard, I personally would say Straykids are more popular than Ateez from the knowledge I have but both are breaking it big world wide and have their own achievements, both amazing bands with different sound. Also yes, if you listen to another album it's going to be a different genre, even tho, both groups have his own colors that makes each very recognizable and unique. 19:55 I’d say Stray Kids is more popular based on streams and listeners, skz has gotten 8.6 billion Spotify streams overall, and ateez has 2.5 billion, they both were formed in 2018. Skz is pretty big internationally and Ateez is climbing up and getting more popular internationally but, so far skz has more listeners.

I would add, as a ult STAY myself, STAY and ATINY are like 'cousins' in the best way!! The groups support each other. The fandoms support each other. The members themselves are friends with each other and support each other etc. Both absolutely deserve all of their success, and I LOVE when people discover either! I kind of think of them as two sides of the same coin. For me at least, it just depends on what I'm feeling at that time. Both groups have their own unique sound. And both groups are absolutely worth full listens. You can not compare them, because they are both unique, but you can absolutely respect both of them, because both groups bring something different to the 'boy band' genre, IMHO.

ATEEZ tells stories with there albums. This is a new chapter in ATEEZ's lore of albums. Treasure Epi 1, 2 3 and Epilogue. Zero Fever 1,2,3 and Epilogue. The World 1, 2, and Fin. They do have Japanese releases as well. To your question , "Is this want they do?" YES ATEEZ is known to go nuts in the last 30 seconds of there songs. Not so much with this album. Others for sure. Siren is a "typical" ATEEZ song. ATEEZ spent time in LA during there trainiee days. So the first two song have that influence. As far a popularity. Both groups are popular. For ATEEZ they are popular internationally. The Korean music industry is really competitive. Since ATEEZ comes a smaller company. They don't really get attention in the industry. That is changing. More people in Korea are definitely paying attention. Welcome to Atiny.

So glad you’ve discovered ATEEZ! They’re absolutely brilliant when it comes to their music, and you’ve got to check out their performances-you might even forget to blink cos they’re that captivating! Here are a few things to keep in mind: - Lore: They’ve got a really rich backstory. They’re styled as black pirates and their music really embraces that theme. For example, *Siren* has this cool double meaning, with the group acting like sirens drawing everyone in, as well as the members themselves being sirens in their lore. - Trilogies: Their music is structured in trilogies, like the Fever series, Treasure series, The World series, and now the Golden Hour series. Honestly, I’d recommend starting from the beginning. You can really hear their growth in both music and sound from their debut up to *Siren*. Plus, their Japanese songs are just as good and tie in with the lore. - Unique Touches: Hongjoong, the captain, has this adorable giggle that pops up in most of their tracks, while Mingi, the other main rapper, always kicks off his parts with his signature “FIX ON.” - Performance: As mentioned, they’re absolute legends when it comes to performance. They’re often hailed as some of the best in the industry, and they’ve really made Coachella fall for them. They have what we call as the Demon Line consisting of Hongjoong, Seonghwa and San. These three change their persona when on-stage. Fun fact: As they come a non-BIG4 entertainment agencies, they found attention on them cos of their performance, specifically HALA HALA. San, the lead vocalist and the main performer's demonic persona got people interested in them and that was the start of it all. - Fan Chants: They’ve got one of the most iconic fan chants in K-pop-“Break the Wall!” You’ll get why it’s such a big deal once you dive deeper into their music. Enjoy your journey with them! I’m sure you’ll love their sound!

And you have discovered my second fave boy group. Ateez have a large crossover in fans with SKZ. (Those who aren't ones who only follow one group & no others. It's strange how every fandom has a few of those. Most of us enjoy variety. It's the spice of life, after all.) Ateez are another group that has producers in the group. (Hongjoong & Mingi, the two main rappers, are the main producers for Ateez.) And they have a very impressive discography as well. And Ateez have their own sound that is all their own. Personally my fave song is Halazia, and that's off their Spin Off: From The Witness mini album. My second fave is Wonderland, off their Treasure Ep. Fin: All To Action album. You might like those albums.

20:05 they're both heavily popular groups, stray kids is more popular however. stray kids came from a company that was already successful whereas ateez made their company successful. they both created their own success in their own ways with skz being fully self produced and self made and ateez having no background and having to build themselves and their company from the ground up. i fully believe though that if ateez's company (KQ) was already successful when they debut then ateez would be in the same lane as skz in terms of numbers and success.

Ateez is awesome! I’ve seen them in concert twice, they’re such great performers. Everyone saying listen to The World is correct, but I’d also throw Zero Fever Part One and Two into the mix. LOVE your reaction! I am also quite absorbed by the production. I agree with those that say to listen to The World albums (The World Ep. 1: Movement and The World Ep. 2: Outlaw), BUT With your love of the layers and sound, I HIGHLY recommend you check out the track Halazia (pronounced Ha La Zee Uh). It is a more lore based track, but the production is AMAZING. Just make sure throw out your expectations of song structure or the first listen may throw you. The MV is amazing, too.

Ateez are extremely underrated, that's why straykids are more popular. I love them both though. Check the album The World:ep2 Outlaw It's my favourite Ateez album. As a rock fan it really does it for me. Each album has different styles of music. They are extremely versatile. You will see how many different genres they attack. I swear they don't have 1 bad song. You can play all the music back to back and not want to press skip

If you only ever listen to one Ateez song, listen to guerrilla! It is a banger and in my opinion my favourite Ateez song. I don't have a favourite album, more fave songs of theirs.

Objectively speaking: SKZ is more popular than Ateez. But I don't think this has anything to do with their music or quality. SKZ are just under a bigger company with more money & oppertunitys. Ateez coming from a smaller company, but being as popular as they are, is a big & impressive achivement.

I am SO EXCITED you are doing Ateez! I have been into them since they did the show Kingdom with Stray Kids, but in a kind of "title track" way. Don’t remember what stray kids song it was, but I remember you liking certain instruments in it and immediately thought of Halazia by Ateez (don’t want to spoil what those instruments are).
