Atelier de olarit - Pottery workshop, Cassius Iunius Efferus, Legio VI Ferrata

In acest video este prezentat un atelier de modelat lut la roata olarului.
Roata olarului este formata din 2 discuri, unul mai mic (pe acesta se modeleaza lutul) in partea de sus si unul mai mare in partea de jos (acesta fiind invartit de catre olar cu piciorul), fiind unite de un ax iar axul de un suport.
Lutul aflat pe roata olarului trece prin diverse forme geometrice: sfera, trunchi de con, cilindru.
Etapele modelarii lutului pe roata de olar sunt urmatoarele:
1 Framantarea lutului: se face aceasta operatiune pentru a omogeniza lutul si pentru a scoate bulele de aer; se framanta si se formeaza un bulgare de lut.
2 Centrarea bulgarelui de lut - fomarea trunchiului de con: se arunca cu putere lutul pe centrul discului, se umezeste, apoi se ajunge prin modelare la forma trunchiului de con.
3 Gaurirea - crearea covrigului: se gaseste mijlocul bulgarelui dupa care se apasa cu un deget sau doua pana ramane in partea de jos aproximativ 1 cm. Se largeste "covrigul" in functie de vasul pe care vrem sa-l facem.
4 Ridicarea peretelui de vas - formarea cilidrului: se pune o mana in interior una pe exterior si se apropie una de alta apoi se ridica usor pana se ajunge la forma unui cilindru. Dupa aceea urmeaza definirea vasului, forma finala.
Dupa modelare vasul se poate decora in diverse moduri, se lasa la uscat cateva zile intr-un loc ferit de soare si de caldura puternica dupa care se arde in cuptoare speciale, temperatura de ardere ajungand la aproximativ 1050 grade Celsius.
In this video is presented a clay modeling workshop at the potter's wheel. The potter's wheel consists of 2 discs, a smaller one (on which the clay is modeled) at the top and a larger one at the bottom (it is rotated by the potter with the foot), being joined by an axis and the axis by a support.
The clay on the potter's wheel goes through various geometric shapes: sphere, cone trunk, cylinder.
The steps of modeling clay on the potter's wheel are the following:
1 Kneading the clay: this operation is done to homogenize the clay and to remove air bubbles; knead and form a lump of clay.
2 Centering the clay ball - forming the cone trunk: the clay is thrown hard on the center of the disc, it is moistened, then it is reached by modeling the shape of the cone trunk.
3 Drilling - creating the pretzel: find the middle of the lump and then press with a finger or two until it remains at the bottom about 1 cm. The "pretzel" widens depending on the dish we want to make.
4 Lifting the vessel wall - forming the cylinder: put one hand inside one on the outside and approach each other then lift it slightly until it reaches the shape of a cylinder. Then follows the definition of the vessel, the final shape.
After modeling, the vessel can be decorated in various ways, left to dry for a few days in a place away from the sun and strong heat, after which it is burned in special ovens, the burning temperature reaching approximately 1050 degrees Celsius.
