Willing to gamble your soul, to save your people, to be seen as a tyrant, in others eyes, to save those that can be saved, not many can do that. Arthas was rash and had a hard time to listen to others, but legit, he did what was needed at the time, if he had not picked up Frostmourne, I imagine he would've been a great king, leading the Alliance for a long time. But his fall is sad, and what makes him a great character how they did it. What happened to him in Shadowlands is unforgivable, but same time, him being used to make Kingsmourne makes sense, who else could be made into such a force.
@thefaller012 жыл бұрын
What happened to him in the shadowlands could be completely acceptable, if not for the Sylvana's dialogue at the end of his flickering soul, which felt so out of place or ridiculous. Plus the fact that more story chould have been given to him during Shadowlands, other than "Look at this blue crystal I have here in my hands, which I'll use to forge Kingsmourne. The players will never 1+1 this one and find out this is related to Arthas!"... If the point was to give some sort of suspense, they failed by how obvious it was, and denied any kind of development related to the character by doing so.

Yes, Arthas, the young lad we had grown attachment to, fell to the darkside. He also killed his own father in one of the most iconic cutscene in the history of game. Those were the days...

Arthas killed Hero after Hero, Antonidas, Uther, Sylvannas, Illidan, all top tier Legendary Heros from their factions and Arthas was so angry, and sought so much revenge that he did EVERYTHING in his power to increase his power and that he did....boy did he ever.. He was alrdy a young and talented Paladin being trained by the very best and was climbing rank fast, he already knew how to rez the dead, heal, but yet had the strength or an Ogre swinging a giant two handed hammer with enchantments on it for years. Once he claimed Frostmourne, he had destroyed every major hero Eastern Kingdoms could muster at the time and even went to Dalaran and killed the Legendary Mage/Priest Antonidas, and made Jaina run away in fear.. Malganis, fell to him, Illidan was slane, nothing was stopping Arthas's revenge.. nothing. He sacrificed many of his own men just to get to Northrend during a Blizzard, and once there, he would not allow them to return until his vengeance was had. His sword (FROSTMOURNE) had taken so many powerful souls that by now Deathknight Arthas had seemingly endless magic and new spells at his command mixed with his former Paladin knowledge he wielded these powers like he was born with them....once he took the Helm of Domination, in one gulp he swallowed down the power of 10,000 Shaman and reached a power that some Gods dare not toy with. He planted his gigantic fortress (ICECROWN) in the Dragon Aspect's backyard like "WHAT?" DARING ANYONE to attack him while surrounded by 1000's of dead dragons and drakes he could rez allday for an army. He already had SINDRAGOSA the Queen of Magic to Malygos and that alone had the Aspects sweating bullets... eventually he would have rezzed GALAKROND once he had enough power, he put a lot into Sindragosa and was regaining power. He was the best Warcraft Raid Boss and the most fearing threat Azeroth ever had. He was 10 of Bolvar....Sylvannas even with the jailers buff was not as strong as the True Lich King....and Bolvar did not have Frostmourne with 1000's of souls in it either, and was only half the Paladin Arthas was. It is EXACTLY the reason Sylvannas told Bolvar "YOU ARE UNFIT TO WEAR THIS CROWN" knowing the power Arthas wielded with it. Tirion had to shatter Frostmourne while the Lich King had his back turned to power Arthas down, and then the spirit of his own father held him in place while they struck him down...He is the only Raid Boss we never truly defeated alone...we had help. Tirion rezzed us after the Lich King killed us.. remember?

@@Steve-s.w to be fair, they had no time to deal with it in an orderly fashion. The plaque was spreading quickly and arthas was afraid that if they didn't purge stratholme quickly, then it might spread further, also the fact that he thought that there still might be uninfected villagers inside stratholme that might get infected if he didn't act fast.
@valkyriesardo2782 жыл бұрын
Agree. Arthas bore the responsibility of decision, his friends had the luxury of indignation. The effort to quarantine the city had failed. Some of his seige troops had become infected. If they waited for Jaina to maybe someday find a cure, many more would be lost. Arthas chose the lesser of two evils against an enemy none could defeat.

Arthas becoming the Lich King was awesome and also sad as fuck. Dude was literally used like a pawn by forces FAR beyond his understanding and comprehension. From Frostmourne to Ner'Zhul to Sire Denathrius and the Jailer...a literal elder god/cosmic figure that created the runes that were used to bind Arthas. And THEN they turned Arthas into kindling for his forges. Damn. Just damn.

I was in grade school when I played Warcraft 3 for the first time, and Arthas' storyline just blew my mind. I was not ready for a story where the good hero had to do so much messed-up stuff, then turn evil, kill his own father, end up being the Darklord, and win in the end.
@macronymous2245 Жыл бұрын
Arthas always was a hero to me, no matter if he became Lich King, as it is said you either die or live long enough to become the villain. Illidan vs Arthas combat can be epic if made very well in a movie, i can say that it will be the most remembered scene. But the thing is nothing comes just out of imagination, to deliver such a story line and emotion, extreme level of work and great actors are required. I want movie from Reign of Chaos- The frozen throne- Wrath of the lich king, this can be great trilogy with Arthas as the pivotal point. But i dont think anyone of current producers have guts to make this epic in a real epic cinematic manner

When i first played both W3 games as kid, Arthas's story was the one affected me the most. Back then i hadn't encountered many sad endings in any franchise and i was really expecting Jaina and Arthas to save their kingdom together but when they departed ways and that cinematic with the bells tolling finished i remember feeling actually baffled. Years later when i found out Anakin also became Darth Vader after Clone Wars i once again faced with a similiarly bitter surprise and only then i noticed the resemlence between two characters. Both tried to help the people they were responsible for, Both had the "Wrong Allies" on their side, and both doomed themselves by choosing to heed their counsel in the end. Not to mention the fact that, whatever Padme was to Anakin, Jaina Proudmoore was almost the same to Arthas even though we didn't see much of their romance in the games. Seeing this video just brought back all those bitter memories for me i guess.

Came here as a suggested video after watching the WotLK cinematic after watching the new "The war within" cinematic. Now I know why the song "Arthas my son" that played in the wotlk cinematic is so emotionally impactful. It's a requiem of a beloved son of Lordaeron... A sad tale of what was meant to be but didn't... The mourning of a paladin, child of a great King, with unparallel love for his people, destined to rule justly over them only to fall into darkness and cause thousands of casualties among the very people he swore to protect. Such a powerful story.
