I find it funny how modern storytellers like to make Ares or Hades the big bad in their stories, but Ares was always easily beaten by Athena and rescued once by Artemis after Ares was kidnapped by giants. Ares was consistently pathetic in the myths. As for Hades, he was a pretty good guy all in all. I see the lesson here as hot versus cold, or more precisely cool. Ares is hot. He is anger, passion, and force whereas Athena is cool, controlled, and precise. So when faced with anger, in yourself or against others, be like Athena, keep cool and don't lose your head.

I think in Hades case it’s because they associate the god of The underworld with hell and evil. In areas case it is probably because war is seen negatively today but back then I wasn’t really seen as a bad an evil thing.

If you lose your head in a fight like Ares, you will most likely lose if the enemy is keeping their cool. And if you keep your cool, you have a better chance of winning, because your actions are not guided by blind rage.

Hades don’t bother nobody. He sits on his throne minding his own business. But nobody wants to speak about death which is why he gets a bad rep. Ares in Greece is nothing but Ares in America or somewhere else is a powerful god cause he was a god of war.

Ares is a nerfed Mars(Roman god). The Sons of Mars(Romans) easily conquered the Athenians(Greeks). Romans held Mars/Ares in high regard while the Greeks hated him

In Ovid's version, it was Athena who turned her into Gorgon but in ancient Greek, she was indeed raped by Poseidon (reasons are probably: he hates Athena, Medusa despite being a Gorgon was praised for her beauty, Poseidon has a huge fetish for monsters). Athena didn't believe her and vanished her from the temple as she's no longer pure, it does made Medusa felt betrayed and became the incarnation of Vengeance.

Aphrodite was a married goddess and was cheating on her husband. Also Aphrodite had no business being in a warzone. She was a liability at best. And Ares was literally the god of the chaos and bloodlust of war. Athena was the goddess of tactics and statecraft and the practical arts.

Athena is more powerful than Ares, she is actually on par with the other powerful gods included Hades and Poseidon, only Zeus is superior to her. Its just media don't give her a good reputation to her and the other godesses Hera is actually really powerful as well, same with Artemis and there is Hecate which is another powerful goddess which doesn't have recognition either.
