Poor Athena 😢 Most of these pinnies are blood feathers. They're still newly growing feathers, especially with the blood still at the base. These are definitely not ready to be preened.

Wow! I Athena is indeed in need of a head makeover and facial! She will be her beautiful self soon.

Poor Athena, that’s a hard molt. I think she’s a tad irritable. I don’t blame her ❤.

at this point would grooming the the pin feathers by finger be best for the bird?

I like how she still stays put even through all the "hey, not that pin. Ik, that one is fine. not that one, either."

Just a quick question. I know nothing about the care of birds. Do you have to remove the pin feathers from the bird or will they eventually fall out? Thanks 😊
@simplynel53186 ай бұрын
Birds usually live in flocks in the wild and have their friends take care of the pin feathers they themselves can't reach (head and neck). If your bird is alone then you can carefully help them yourselves to free the new feathers. If you don't touch them, the keratin sheath will eventually fall off with the bird scratching its head, but itll be irritable meanwhile as they are quite itchy.

I think sctraching with hands is going to be better for taking the pinfeathers off

Byron appears to be done with finger scratching sometimes, I can imagine a finger might be huge and scary to some smaller birds. With a pet you don't know, I find asking questions rather than giving guidance to be the easiest way to open the dialogue around pet care, which is so personal to each animal

I think you have not owned a bird before

@@MarlowePowerLockman My comment wasn’t even about that. No need to be offended. Don’t assume that everyone's first language is english. To me, my comment was general observation about birds pinfeathers written in a polite way.

@@TypeHoeNegative I have a cockatiel that i love so much. And people close to me have birds too. I was just speaking from my experience with pinfeathers because they tend to be hard to open sometimes. And I’ve seen lots of birds prefer hands because they are scared of strange tools. Every bird is different and everyone can have different opinions🤷🏻♂️ P.s. I really like this channel

@@Melektopia I was not rude in my comment either, just politely suggested something to think about in the future. I didn't assume you were being rude, and I don't believe I responded in a rude way

birds also bond with their people when preening feathers done by fingers not an instrument imo
