It is a bit of a shame though they completely ignored Classical Roman Greece and Medieval Greece. Classical Rome was the golden age of the Olympic Games, when it was funded and promoted by a Roman Empire of 50+ million people, to the point that many cities tried to host them too. Medieval Rome had Olympic Games in Antioch up ti Justinian the Great, when the city was destroyed due to earthquakes, plagues and Persian invasions. And still after that the Roman Greeks still hosted sport competitions, like spear-throwing, ball-throwing, disc-throwing, weightlifting, running, boxing, horse racing, chariot racing, even horse polo.

Can you help me comprehend the plot and characters of this play, please? - time code 16:09 What is this? Greek symbol? - Who is this couple playing in the lake? And this pregnant woman? Are these Greek characters from the epic? Or is this the director's creation? Thank you!
@theyellowarchitect45044 ай бұрын
@@milaos8787 At 16:09 is the "Cycladic Figurine", basically idols/figurines (never life-sized statue) that were sculpted by hand before the archaic age. Many of them were excavated around cyclades I think. Basically it's the "origin" so to speak, hence it was used as the "egg" of what follows (ancient greek statue parts) No idea on the couple, could be anything (we have many such myths here) but I doubt they were purely the director's creation, must have symbolized something. If I were to guess, could even be europa and zeus (he did fall from the sky), but again, many myths of a couple falling in love in the beach. And honestly in 2024 it's refreshing to see something like it - a normal relationship.
@milaos87874 ай бұрын
@@theyellowarchitect4504 thanks a million! I googled Cycladic Figures. Now I got it. Ancient period. As Greece is known all over the world with her myths I thought that couple is Gaia with... Idk who. Because Gaia is not only connected with the history of how the world appeared. But also she took part in Olympic Gods life;) I'm sure that the director was inspired by Greek mythology. That's why the historical part is not purely history. Greece is represented here as one of the centres of civilization. This explains the Universe, love, pregnancy, DNA code that are woven with each other through the performance. Million people are here again after that shame in France. We all need to find something beautiful and normal. ;)

I was participated, as volunteer, in this dream! i was in Clepsydra (Classical period). At 28:03, i am the statue who walk forward, down the Parthenon. Never forget this! I was so emotional, almost was crying during presentation... Who's watching this masterpiece after the French opening ceremony????

I'm not Greek but I am a proud Westerner with Celtic and Germanic roots and this made me tear up a bit. I'm ashamed for France and the modern West. Much love to our Greek brothers and sisters who helped shape the best parts of the West.

Are we Greeks westerns? We were the Capital of the Eastern Roman Empire and we are Eastern Orthodox Christians. I think we find our selves a bridge between Europe and Asia not as westerners but thanks for your love to Greece 🙏🏻

Without a doubt, the best opening Olympic Games ceremonies ever staged. The historical detail and thought of the show is stunning, and warm outpouring of the Greeks, as always is just wonderful. The lighting of the torch is a showstopper and not to be missed.
