Athens Airport International Arrival

We arrived in Athens airport on a international arrival from Tirana, Albania on Aegean Airlines. We process through a quick line a the border control and then catch the train to Athens City center which is about 1 hour away.

Nice video. The airport had nothing to do with the Olympics. It was on the drawing board since the 70s, when the old overcrowded Hellinikon airport was already running out of space for expansion (and building this new one was controversial, because it was built in an area known for vineyards and olive groves). They finally signed the agreement with the contractor companies to build it in the early 90s, and construction broke ground in 1995. Athens wasn't awarded the 2004 Olympics until 1997.

It's fairly easy to get from Eleftherios Venizelos airport to Athens although I agree that there should be more signs showing where are the buses and where are the trains. The word Συνταγμα you saw on the signs when you arrived at the central metro station in Athens means Constitution as is the name of the whole square there. It's a fitted name as on the one side of this large square is occupied by the building of Parliament which was an ex-palace of the former kings.
