While we are all waiting for our OLA scooters to arrive, let’s examine if the alternatives - the Ather 450X and the TVS iQube - are any good. Yes, there is also the Bajaj Chetak EV, but finding one for our review wasn't easy, since they sell only in a few select markets. The Ather 450X and TVS iQube follow different approaches to providing electric mobility solutions to the modern day buyer. But which is better?

I did try the 450X..not once, not twice but thrice & was utterly blown away by the WARP mode. But somehow I couldn't convince myself to spend 1.62L on something delivering only around 80+ kms (more so because I normally do 70-80 kms easily on a daily basis, which could go to upto 100-120kms occasionally). So I looked for options with better range and I ended up buying PureEV Etrance Neo (towards late Dec 21).

Etrance Neo is a fairly good product for the price (Rs 90k approx.). Delivered more range than promised (123kms on 2 occasions) with my usage varying between all 3 modes but majorly in mode 2. Suspensions, seat and storage are my grudges about the scooter. Front suspension has very less travel (some sharp potholes and most joints on bridges thug through harshly) and the rear suspension is annoyingly jumpy with 2 onboard (doable when riding solo). Seats aren't good enough for my 35+35kms ride. Storage space could accommodate only the charge + a lunch box +1/2L bottle, no helmets whatsoever. Headlights are ok. Front brakes are ok. Overall an ok product with good range.

I just sold my Toyota Etios car and bought an Ather 450X. As a stop gap arrangement, that is. Until I buy my first electric car. Hopefully, a Beojun 300 Ev or some such mini/micro ev. My main concern about the Aether prior to buying it was whether it could climb steep hills since my residence is located on a small hillock. But, to my surprise, the Ather climbed it rather smoothly even in the Eco mode. Quick acceleration. I like that about Ather. Particularly when negotiating dense city traffic. But, I dread using Ather on long distance drives. It seems somewhat unstable. It seems to me that the bike might flip over even if i turn my head sharply. May be its a problem with my lack of scooter-driving skills. The last time I rode a scooter was 30 years ago.

I booked Ather 450x yesterday. Can't wait to get my hands on it! As of now there is a limit on how much range we can squeeze out of an EV battery and Ather has one of the best batteries currently available anywhere in the world. So there is no big improvement coming in near future.

I have used iqube and I feel that Iqube is better as much as I don't like the sound of Ather. There is an option for portable charging and it is very much secure and portable. We can use the feature of the KSEB electric charging points for Iqube. I feel the sound of Ather like a flourmill. They are very much similar. All due to the belt drive.

OLA യെക്കാൾ വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിയുക Ather നെയാണ്. OLA തുടക്കത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നത് 181 KM ആയിരുന്നു. ടെസ്റ്റ്‌ ഡ്രൈവ് വെഹിക്കിൾ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അത് 151 KM ആയിരുന്നു. എന്നാലും 181 ഉണ്ടല്ലോ എന്ന് കരുതിയാണ് കൂടുതൽ ആളുകൾ ക്യാഷ് അടച്ചത്. പക്ഷേ പിന്നീട് വണ്ടി ആളുകളുടെ കയ്യിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ റേൻജ് വീണ്ടും കുറഞ്ഞു 134 ആയി. 120KM വരെയൊക്കെ കിട്ടുന്നുള്ളൂ എന്നാണ് ഓണർസ് പറയുന്നത്. കൂടാതെ സ്പീഡിൽ പോവുമ്പോൾ ബാറ്ററി ഹീറ്റ് ആയത് കാരണം ഓട്ടോമാറ്റിക് ആയി സ്പീഡ് കുറയുന്നുണ്ട്. സോ മാർച്ച്‌ ഏപ്രിൽ മെയ് മാസങ്ങളിൽ OLA എങ്ങനെ മാനേജ് ചെയ്യും എന്ന് കണ്ടറിയേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

I would like to have an EV scooter with the proper build quality, fit and finish, good motor and power, useful range of 100kms. As JD says I don’t think we need any gimmicks like Bluetooth, maps, touchscreens, etc. Most of us only use scooters for basic commute and we don’t require any gimmicks or fancy tech features in that case. Ather 450X - Most of the tech and fancy features.

I owe an ather. It's really good. It has its own pros n cons. Good thing is I also owe solar panels for electricity. So charging cost is not a problem. Scooter is really good. Waiting to get more owner review of ola. and if u ride in full economy mode u almost get more than 90kms, more than what they have claimed. Ather needs to really work in their shock absorbers. That's one negative what I felt.

I test drive TVS i qube, 2 types of chargers available, one is r. 8000 other one is rs. 10000. i think one type is a portable charger.... Talking cars pls check...?

What we were informed is that the cheaper one does not have rfid authentication compared to the more expensive one. It’s still a wall mounted unit.
