In today's video I'm responding to a recent athlean-x video entitled "Get Bigger Arms in 22 Days! (GUARANTEED)". In that video Jeff Cavaliere makes the outlandish claim that his special athlean-x arm workout can pack a full INCH of size onto your arms in only 3 weeks. In fact, this video is just one installment from a complete series he calls "22 Days To Bigger Muscles (GUARANTEED!)" which includes other gems such as "Get a Flat Stomach in 22 Days! (HOME WORKOUT)", "Get a Bigger Chest in 22 Days! (HOME CHEST WORKOUT)", "Get a 6 Pack in 22 Days! (HOME AB WORKOUT)" and more. It seems that ever since the athlean-x fake weights scandal broke and Jeff's monthly views were cut roughly in half, he's now resorted to even more gimmicky content than before to try to recover. In this video I'll explain the reality behind this curlean x, er, athlean-x "22 days" silliness, along with realistic rates of arm growth you can actually expect in the real world. I'll also give my thoughts on why these types of false claims can actually be harmful to novice lifters. Hope you enjoy the video.

Jeff's 22 days to better glutes actually helped me significantly towards resolving my imbalances and anterior pelvic tilt, which really helped with lower back pain. I appreciate how he includes corrective workouts with most of programs. I even saw my ass firm up a bit. That being said, I was pretty disappointed by the rest of the 22 day series' clickbaitiness. I think Jeff excels most at the physical therapy side of things, and that's the content of his that I seek out. He's really helpful for teaching beginners how to reduce risk of injury, find/get rid of imbalances and finding alternative workouts for those who suffer chronic pain.

I did follow Athlean-X's routine. Not for 22 days but for around 40 days. In the video he says to focus on only bicep or tricep exercises on those different days. However, he also said to add in these arms exercises to your exisisting routine not necessarily just replace your entire arms workout with these ones displayed in the video. After 40 days my arms went from 13.5 inches to 14.5 inches by adding in his extra arm exercises and continuing my regular arms routines. I think his tip about the pushdown tricep exercise really did make me feel the tricep "burn" much more. I do think his video was clickbait however & I don't think I could have made an inch difference in my biceps in just 22 days.
@dharantejav3375

There isn't much difference between 22 days and 40 days brother. It takes many months or yrs. It's either you made a mistake in measuring your bicep size previously, or you've probably never done any arms exercises before(or you're just lying). That's all.

Virtually any program will get you results as long as that program isn't total crap, and you apply it consistently and bring maximal effort to it. But I think I had old muscle that just needed boosting after a long time off to get this, and I've never replicated it, often thinking I'm doing something wrong. My arms were their biggest when I incorporated 20 rep breathing squats or deadlifts into my program just once a week for one set after a couple warmups. I never did more than 6 sets for triceps a week and always trained them after chest. I trained biceps with only 5 sets of work after back. Always made sense to me to avoid injuries and it worked.

Watch the actual video on Jeff's channel the representation in this video is a strawman at best. 1. Athlean-X is doing a video series for different muscle groups with a split routine over 22 days for each part...this video just happens to be on arms. 2. In the original video he mentions several times that beginners may struggle and even highlights the importance of eccentric loading which the viewer may have never done. Obviously he's talking to beginners. 3. He mentions that if someone is frustrated with their arms not growing to set aside exercises that may be fatiguing their biceps/triceps and train them purposefully instead of passively. He was troubleshooting bad program design. 4. At the end of the video Jeff said he would not be surprised if, at the end of 22 days, that a person might even measure 1 inch bigger at the end of the workout. He didn't say they would gain an inch. Teaching beginners a split routine, eccentric loading, supersets/compound sets, and workout consistency with 48 hours rest between workouts to allow growth. Yeah...that's a far cry from being a charlatan.

Lots of people in the youtube fitness community talk shit about Jeff, because he isn´t selling anything and does good content. Most of the otzher fitness youtubers just want to sell their bullshit proteinpowder and merch. many of them are just "bros" from the gym who don´t have any clue about the biomechanics and the science of sport. they are just people who train and there is nothing wrong about that but when they just talk shit and maybe harm other people by giving bad advice for doing an exercise, i think that´s irresponsable. oh yeah, the thing about "using light weights" everyone is talking about, when talking about Athlean-X´s videos is so dumb because he isn´t training, he is showing how to do the exercise correctly. he doesn´t need to "show how strong he is" because he is A COACH, he is a professional coach for REAL athletes and not for the clowns that go to the gym to deadlift a few hundret pounds and brag about it. he is a professional, not a amateur.

tbh while i do think the video could have been explained better, i gained a solid inch in my arms, going from 9 inches to 11 inches in just a few short months. i could definitely see how a beginner (like me) would definitely grow an inch. honestly i think that was his original purpose, but didn't think it through enough. the process of growing your muscles depends on many factors, and the reason it takes so long is because you need time to recover. over night your muscles repair, but obviously they aren't gonna grow tremendously. the process happens at a very small level, at least from what i've researched, and that's why it takes so long. i believe the idea of what jeff is talking about is "newbie gains". that would be the inch he's talking about, it seems like.

Sadly, the industry is a slippery slope and there is a lot more cash to be made in peddling shitty WODs than actual quality information, and I don't trust a liar to choose the noble path and prioritize his audience's fitness goals over financial gains. If you find his workouts effective, then by all means, let the gains speak for themselves. I was blown away when I saw his video too. Insane. Even with steroid use, I don't think you can gain a solid inch of growth in just 22 days of arm training. yet, he claims you can. That statement toward the end made my jaw drop. An inch of solid muscle is an insane amount. My mother is a personal trainer and even with her old knowledge from the late 90's said this to me when I was a young teen when I first started to lift at school. "To get an idea of how much muscle growth you are attaining after each workout and proper rest cycle is probably the equivalent to half to maybe the thickness of a sheet of paper, all around said muscle in question--For a male. And that would be considered good gains. Any promises by anyone else that you can get more just isn't feasible unless you are juiced." But, yet, I'm supposed to believe an inch is attainable in 22 days? That is wild.

It's well documented in the first summer you train as a teen, you add a solid 12-15lbs of lean mass, I can personally testify to that. You'll never replicate that speed again (unless you add 50lbs, layoff a few years and restart). Also, unless you're both a teen and a newcomer you were NEVER going to add an inch in 22 days in the first place, but the genius of the claim is that the sudden gains inspire thousands of bicep boys to become Bi/Tri boys, subscribe and quite a few of them buy his programs.

Great video, Sean! By the way, no one read the small print; a 1-inch increase in arm size... via a pump. In all seriousness, I'm a strong believer in focusing on gains in general rather than targeting specific areas; I suppose it's in line with your advice regarding not having to restructure an entire program for the purpose of zoning in on a particular muscle group. I'd also add that, occasionally, weak points become strong points as a person's body improves overall.

I do remember in muscle and fitness about 10 years ago they had a one-inch on your arms in one workout in there magazine. I did it twice and gained a half and then 3/4 on my arms. Its an insane 6-8 hour arm workout in one day, where you flex and squeeze your arms and count 8 seconds up and down for reps and after you complete all the reps in the hour, whatever time is left is rest time.

As a person who knows how to solve a Rubik’s cube, the average size of a 3x3 speed cube (the classic Rubik’s cube) is 56 cm. From personal experience, even as small as a 1 cm difference on a cube would immediately cause me to know that the cube is larger or smaller than usual (this is also common for other speed fibers). Therefore, gaining an inch of muscle mass to the arm (or at least just the bicep or tricep) in 22 days sounds unrealistic to me-especially since an inch is definitely larger than a centimeter.

So I started 14 months ago with my muscle training. In fact I started with Jeff's 22 day plan. I didn't do any training before. After 22 days my arms got bigger but I think half a centimetre... Because I build muscle that I never used before. I knew it was BS but it was a nice way to start. After 14 months with a 2 months injury stop I know that muscle growth is slow. But that shouldn't stop you! I workout 3-4 times a week for two hours. Because I like it. Not to build tonnes of muscle, that's just the benefit...
