lol so true Andy, I feel like I'm re-learning squat form about every other leg day. I've actually been doing several sets of bodyweight squats before even touching the bar lately. I feel so lame but I struggle with form big time. Funny thing is I've done yoga for years so I''m super flexible, not sure why its an issue.

I'm lucky enough to go to a gym that's full of competing powerlifters, Olympic style lifters, and instructors just there to work out. Wonderful atmosphere, good cheer, and cheaper membership fees than any damn run-of-the-mill machine-park gyms that's popping up like weeds all over. Not once have they just stood by and let anyone do an exercise in a way that may harm them. Instead they jump in and, with a smile, give instruction and advice on form and whatnot. Can't really remember where I'm going with this rambling, as I lost my train of though right after I started writing... Oh yeah: It's nice that this video says exactly what they say. Same about an older video also about squats, among other things. Seeing the same things on this channel makes me even more happy to be at that gym. Also love the fact that here, I get tons of advice on other exercices to strengthen my weak points, and thereby lessen the risk of future injuries.

Thanks for this. I'm a long time lifter. I played D1 college football in the mid/late 80's. I generally lift alone due to time constraints so I don't have anyone to give me form pointers. I'm in my 50's now and have suffered from injuries throughout the years in my lower back from squatting. I adopted this relatively minor tweak and kept squatting through the back pain I already had before seeing this video. I squat 3 days a week. After 2 weeks of squatting this way my back pain is gone permanently and my squat has improved 30 pounds. I can't thank you enough for this!

@Lightpaladinsoldier6 жыл бұрын

@mikegorbet25446 жыл бұрын
Jason Brooks low bar would require you to maintain back angle for a split second longer. If you break your back angle similar to how is shown, you would lose balance and fall back. This works for high bar much more.
@buzondemadera6 жыл бұрын
But he's not wrong about lifting them at the same time. Doing so prevents good-morning-ing the squat
@mikegorbet25446 жыл бұрын
Cristian Madera low bar requires you to maintain back angle for more of the movement. By definition, that disagrees. Low bar is your "good morning squat" for those that don't know the difference between low bar to high bar mechanics. They are quite a bit different in back angles, supportive cues and hip to back change in angles.

Thank you. Jeff, thank you. You have no idea how much you have just helped me. I've been lifting for a while. As we all know squats are foundational. But my weight on the bar and my leg development have been stuck pretty much in one place. I knew I was doing something wrong but could not fix it. I had people check my form (personal trainers, mind you); I've videoed myself and tried to analyze it. Couldn't figure out how to stop pulling with my chest first, which made heavy weights painful for me to do. It's unbelievable how simple you make things. Thank you and God bless you. Your videos are both amazing and very informative I started working out about a year and a half ago I’m now 52 and I see all these young kids doing squats and bending way forward on the way down and killing there back

Once stopped worrying about the weight left my ego out the door I really started to make gains with my squat. Think that’s the problem with most especially young people starting out in high school have to show off lifting way more than should using improper form. Since I’ve dropped the weight and doing deep squats my lower back pains have all but disappeared. I’m 43 and in better shape than ever have been always enjoyed this channel and free advice.

That step is very very helpful. Try this tip. To engage hips, glutes core. Go with the spreading the carpet technique. Pretend there is a ripple of carpet under your feet and act as if you're trying to flatten the ripple out by keeping your feet flat, and spreading your legs. So then your quads, hips, core and glutes will be engaged before you begin the squat. Keeping everything nice and tight. As coming back up keep spreading the carpet so you don't have to worry about the setting back or coming forward.

jeff can you please share your macros as u dont believe in cutting and bulking bt to eat in a deficit and have high protein while improving strength so can u please share your macros along with your height and weight and all that stuff

Jeff doesn't believe in macros my friend! Not sure which video it is but he's talked about this before. Counting calories and macros isn't sustainable in the long term!

There was some video ever he mentioned his ht & wt. He was addressing some comments on accusations of steroids I think. I thought he said somewhere around 5' 10, and 180. Maybe 165? He's so lean it's hard to see him at 180, but he's got length in arms and legs. I'd guess that's pretty close.

Moving the hips and chest as one did it for me. Great job again Jeff.

This video saved me. I had this weird bulging feeling in my abdomen when I went up from the bucket and it freaked me out. Turns out I was leading with my butt and not even lifting my chest until the very end of the movement. I corrected to moving my hips and chest together, and the feeling went away and I felt my quads being engaged so much more! Thank you Jeff! You probably saved me from a hernia!

What's everyone's thoughts on ATG squats?
@elenakat14976 жыл бұрын
If your anatomy allows them, do them. If not, don't.
@jamil26186 жыл бұрын
KhanGirey Best possible form of squats, literally since I began doing ATG instead of parallel, my leg DOMS lasts about 4-5 days and really attacks the quads
@KhanGirey6 жыл бұрын
I mean, I can go all the way down to the point of me sitting on my ankles (slav squat). There's no risk of injury going that low with weight, is there?
@jamil26186 жыл бұрын
Just get your hips below knee height by a decent margin, not too much as it may cause injury or turn into a pause squat

riteshnayak80 Or from people that know his way of high-bar squatting isn’t universal to all other squats and he says it like it is. ‘Sitting back’ is most beneficial for low-bar squatting where staying too upright could hurt your squat and loading the hips becomes crucial.

Jeff when i start my squats (maybe 30-40% of my max because i avoid loading more due to the problem i will explain),one of my adductor starts having discomfort to the point that i can''t pass my 50% of my max weight maybe even less.I tried warming up before i start but it still the same and only in my squats exercise,in all my other i dont have any pain.I have a very good form and i rarely test my max because i want to keep the tension in the muscles .Is there any exercises or some change i can do to fix this problem?Because i really need to keep squats as a staple exercise.Thanks

BasileiosKara U may have obturator nerve entrapment. See a pain doc or ortho doc and treated butterfly stretches five mins five times daily... and then slowly add isometric stretches by placing a wedge between when u squeeze ... five second reps 10X about five times daily after stretching. If not better in cupla weeks get an mri if the adductors 🤟🏼 just a pain and rehab doc trying to help out
