For a while after my divorce, I stopped working out and going out and spending time with friends and whatnot. Then I ruptured my quad tendon. I was in an incredible funk and doing things I'm not proud of. I realized that my life was over if I didn't start getting my shit together and immediately started changing my diet up to lose a bunch of weight. I lost 70+ pounds just through diet alone while my leg was still locked in a brace. Once I could walk again, I started doing just that...walking. That has morphed into being fully immersed back into a healthy lifestyle with exercise and diet. I couldn't imagine going back to where I was when I couldn't workout. It's the best form of stress management on the planet (as long as you're not using it to cover up mental health issues).

Cowelly84 i might not really be all-knowledgeable here but it does seem to me that a two-day slit is a tad too limiting. i mean, like Jeff always says, try to keep your workout last less than an hour, preferably 40 minutes. and if you really want to bulk up symetrically, what do you need to work on? the biceps, shoulders, triceps, chest, forearms, core/abs, thighs, calves, maybe even your ass... see how much of it is there? i personally switched to a three-day cycle, Monday for the biceps and forearms, Tuesday for the chest/triceps and shoulders, Wednesday for the leg stuff and then all over again until Sunday when I rest

My problem is that I can not spend less than 45 min doin bench. I try cut it in half but it takes time to reach your personal best. So I start at half of what I can manage and increase five pounds a set. Reach my personal best, or slightly above, and do three or four more sets. After that it’s close to an hour! Is it too long or what should I do?
@HeadShoht5 жыл бұрын
@@TobbeStorm I'd suggest just doing 6 sets of bench, I go 3 heavy sets, 2 medium weight sets, and 1 light, high rep set, just to really fatigue the chest, and then go do some other chest workouts like cables flies and dips
@HeadShoht5 жыл бұрын
@@TobbeStorm overall, this should definitely cut the time shorter, and don't wait so long between sets, I try to wait a minute, 2 minutes at most

@thebluescaptain8 жыл бұрын
"what do you have a problem with them?" Not sure if troll or a steroid abuser himself. Steroid users act "natty" to their audience just to "motivate" their NATTY AUDIENCES to get ripped and monstrously big like them. How did they do that? Well, simply just lying "do this do that and you'll be as big as mine bro" without even mentioning that they're on steroid abuse. Now, to be fair, some of them did admit they use steroids, but tons of them refrain from being honest. These dishonest cunts are what spread hatreds to the people. Don't give your audience false hope if you know they can't be as big as you without risky chemicals. Good for knowledgeable audiences, but for the ignorant ones, especially fitness noobs, it's too bad for them. They'd try steroids without ever thinking about the long term side effects or short term risks.

Excellent advice! Things really changed for me when I forgot the “bodybuilding” world and thought of myself as an athlete, focusing on pushing my limits inside and out and loving the pressure of those last painful reps. I don’t look out; I look in and enjoy the workouts. I’d definitely agree with scrapping the bodybuilder magazines and just hitting the workouts like Rocky

This video was just what I needed to hear. Number eight is something I've struggled with for years. Just recently, I finally figured out a good balance between intensity and volume and my energy and strength levels have definitely increased. I also used to avoid barbell squats and deadlifts but now, along with overhead barbell press, they are my absolute favorite exercise. Thanks for all your advise, Jeff!! Your channel has high value in my life!
@craigk6218 жыл бұрын
1. good fats .. yep flax / avocados. 2. training hard v training long. yep intensity is the key to gains.i think Jeff admits here he is an ectomorph so the lean look with be easier for him but gains are harder than for a meso / endo. For the definitive education intensity google the colorado experiment ellington darden . 3. Supps. Yes and no. If you need gains you are gonna need protein to support those. How you get that protein is up to you , but easier to down a shake than a whole chicken. 4. Magazines. In most cases the workouts be the pros are isolation exercises ... they have already done the basic strength lifts to build a base. EG squats / deadlifts / bench/ shrugs imo pointless doing a side lateral for example before you have built core strength. 5. Avoid injury at all costs. You can't make any gains or you will suffer atrophy when you get injured. Therefore avoid. Warm up and do some defensive / mobility work b4 every workout. Once a month have a deep tissue massage once 8 weeks chiropractic help. Yep boring as fuck but prevention is better than cure. 6. Mix it up. Don't spend your life in the Gym. Do some low impact cardio for example outside the gym... E. G. Biking. Try muscle confusion ... don't do the same workouts over and over. 7. Don't waste time in the gym gassing. 8. Try to get a partner / spotter that helps and has a similar goal to you. If possible try to get one who has similar strength. Why ? S9 you don't have to keep in changing weights (applies mostly to barbell free weights). 9. progress. Either resistance or modify (see Jeff 's excellent vids on this topic... E. G his I hate plank vid). Maybe Jeff could have a play list for progression vids ?

flax and avocados, are you kidding me? Coconut oil (the best concentrated source of good saturated fat, boost testosterone), macadamia nuts (the best concentrated source monounsaturated fat, boost testosterone), fish oil high in omega-3 (the best polyunsaturated fat, which you should be avoiding BTW because it LOWERS testosterone (of the three types of fat), but it's good for helping with inflammation and mental issues). Important note, vegetables for omega-3 leads to poor absorption of omega-3 in ALA form (i.e., get it from fish with no ifs, ands, or buts).
@craigk6217 жыл бұрын
+SteelBlueVision ... coconut oil ... yep..and macadamia. .. also thumbs up. I cook with coconut oil and love macadamia but it's difficult to "eat" a lot of coconut oil and macadamia nuts are way expensive here. Avocados and flax no good ? why ?

My exerphobia is triceps dips. Because a couple of times I leaned too much forwards and hurt my pecs real bad. Also, I have wonky shoulders so many times a dip was falling flat on my ass. But these last two months are my newest stint in the gym and I applied Jeff's techniques and I am training smart, and then hard, and I got quicker results in two months than in the last stint of a YEAR AND A HALF.

Seriously? The amount of assumptions you're making is insane. How do you know they're American? How do you know its the individual's first/main language? Next, the point they are making is a comedic one but instead you focus on a mistake. You should reevaluate your own life before you try to evaluate another's.

...says the guy who launches his post with a run-on sentence and uses "there" where it should be "their." Of course, correcting others' grammar and such in a casual chat thread without provocation is merely pedantic posturing; however, those who feel compelled to belittle others' grammar, spelling and such should make sure their own chops are up to scratch before embarrassing themselves and, by proxy, their supposedly superior cultural background.

Wow, Jeff! #1 hit me so hard with the light sensitivity. I never even considered the lack of healthy fats as being one of my issues! I’ve always been pretty lean, wiry and fairly toned as a byproduct of physical labor. As I’ve just hit 50 and now noticing that A) I’m not nearly as strong as I used to be B) don’t want to eat garbage food at all hours like I used to and C) have a family to think about I’ve recently started taking my health and fitness way more seriously. Thank you so much for being honest, knowledgeable and transparent. This is super encouraging for me, as an older guy who wants to get healthier and more fit. The irony is that I just signed up for a different “program” earlier this morning but after watching some of your videos alongside numerous accolades of other health professionals who highly recommend what you’re doing, I’m canceling my subscription and switching over to yours because it’s clear that your knowledge and experience are vastly superior. It’s fine to look great and that’s definitely part of the motivation, but the real goal is really to be healthy, fit and strong for the long haul.
