Most people have big quads small hams. Some hamstring exercises would consist of glute ham raises, hamstring curls, reverse leg press/leg press. And just getting stronger generally in the thigh will help your sprinting time drastically. A good exercise for this would be the barbell squat. Start progressing with weight on your squat and you will see your time fly.

Thank you for the video. I had an honor to learn from him personally at U of H and he was such a great coach with profound understanding for human movement. Again, thank you for posting this video.

Glad to see someone saying that *the elbow opens and closes* during the stride cycle. This really should be true at every speed: the *amount* of opening and closing is less at slower speeds, but there should always be some "play" in the elbow--it should never be locked at one particular angle. (If the elbow is locked, as a matter of mechanics you *must* have shoulder sway and/or a cross-body motion. Both kill speed.) NB: you don't *make* the elbow open/close; relax the elbow and *let* it happen.

Sorry for the confusion! I didn't mean slower speeds *within the 400*--but rather slower average running speeds, say within distance running: the elbow should still open and close during the stride cycle in a 10k, but not very much. I agree with you that, *within the 400*, the elbow's opening and closing is most marked at the start and initial acceleration--which perforce are slower speeds than those maintained in the body of the race. Again, sorry not to have been clearer.

What do you mean opening and closing? Isn't it supposed to stay at 90degrees?

@JBoateng100m They both are right it's the same principal it's called the chin/pocket technique. When its all said and done you wanna follow Tom Tellez scripture and verse. The man trained Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell and host of other world class track and field athletes.

Calf workout is useless. You will get enough stimulation in your calves through plyos and just sprinting.
