Athlon Binocular comparison /review Cronus UHD vs Midas UHD 10x42's

This is just my take on 2 different binoculars from the same manufacturer, there's not a lot on either of these so I thought I'd add my 2 cents. Given my somewhat limited experience with great binoculars ie alpha class bino's, I find both these to be a great value for the dollars. Your mileage may vary...
The difference for me is that I carry my binoculars always now, as opposed to having a cheap pair that sits at home or somewhere in my pack...
Note: Cronus has a locking diopter ring behind the focus wheel which is more status for me, to the Midas non-locking, both function equally as well and I have never had to readjust either...

I have a Pentax 10x42 an Athlon Neos HD 10x42 and also bought a Midas G2 UHD 12x50 for a longer reach. The Midas 12x50 G2 is the best of the bunch. I paid $350 for it. I compared the Midas with binos costing from $700-1,500 and it matched all of them in edge-to-edge image quality. It was only bested (not by much) by alpha binos costing from $1,800 to well over $3K.

Hi, You're very welcome, I have no experience with maven but heard good things. as I learn/use my bino's more I feel now for where I use them most, I my have been better served getting 8x42's instead of the 10's I have. Don't over look magnification as it relates to where your using them most. Beyond that I'm happy with my purchase. Rob

Why not just buy both at the same time to compare them side by side for yourself and return the loser for a refund?

The Bushnell Forge is a better choice and a lot cheaper too for a 15x binoculars but good luck if you ever need warranty from Bushnell.

So I thinks the low light performance for the Midas is good given it;s price point, I did a bit of back and forth hand held at sunset looking out into the woods, and to be honest it was hard for me to see a difference, but if you did the same with a tripod mount, I'd bet the Cronus would edge out the Midas, Hope that answers your question. None of these Athlon's are great during night time use which is their only negative compared to other more expensive brands such as Leupold which are superior during low light and night time use.

I recently bought and received a Midas UHD and it was okay clearer than my Kowa BDII XD but my ScoopX UHD binoculars is far superior than both and only cost $65 on eBay but $249 on Amazon. .

So much depends on your own preferences and what looks good to your eye's, having a photography background has taught me better glass gives you a sharper image. If you have a chance to use/try different brands before you purchase would be a big plus. Also taking into account how you'll use them and how much. When I was out west I was mainly looking out across great distances, here in the east where it is heavily treed 200 yards is a long way. I've yet to try top shelf bino's but I'm not sure I could justify the expense for the amount of time I use them.

@@ramsheaths I have a Kowa Genesis Prominar XD and Leupold BX5 Santiam as my top performing references. Followed by an Athlon Cronus UHD Rangefinder Binoculars and Leupold BX4 and Athlon Midas UHD 8x42 and 12x50 several Kowas, BDII XD and YF series several Bushnell Legend L and E and several different magnification Powerviews, Bausch and Lombs, Pentax Japan, Nikon Action Xtreme, Trailblazer, Leupold BX1 and Yosemite and lots of vintage Japanese made binoculars among a ton of generic brands of binoculars as well. Have a Burris Signature HD Rangefinder Binoculars inbound among more Russian brand Baigish binoculars to compare currently inbound.

@@ramsheaths There's a problem with my 8x42 Athlon Midas and the focus is already maxed out to infinity when only looking at 100 yards and far distances isn't able to be focused clear.

Amazon, they were mis priced, and they shipped me ist gen midas 3 times, I unraveled the problem for them so they honored the price and finally shipped them correct. 8 weeks wait total but an awesome deal.
