This game and this song specifically holds great value to me, 14 years ago I lost my older brother in a car accident when he was just 18. He was here for the original trilogy and loved every part of halo, playing late with friends until the early hours of the morning and then getting just enough sleep to go to school the next day, we lost him about a month before this game came out and it really embodied how I felt after we lost him and even still to this day it's melodies strike me straight to my core and make me cry for him, this is a beautiful cover of my favorite halo song, thank you atinpiano, Marty and Michael for this masterpiece, and rest easy Richie.

I was playing a D&D game recently, one that is heavy into roleplaying characters and their issues... the cleric in our party was looking for the moon to pray, to ask for guidance in her journey as she was getting desperate because the fear of losing someone close and being lost in the new world she fell on... Stopped the ambient music in W2G that no one was paying attetion to and started this one, our DM avoids listening so he doesn't get distracted for the music, but he started without knowing to go in the same pace as the piano, describes that her words look to be lost in the sky as she is, Selûne could not hear the priestess as she is unwelcome in that plane of existence. Her turn to describe what she would do, her voice sounded even more sad than before, then the piano kicks again and she cracks for an instant, almost about to cry, played along for a moment saying how she really needed help, but will try to not fall into despair yet, that she will keep trying to do what it is needed to be able to reach her again. The DM concerned about her breaking, stops the game for a moment to ask what is going on and we just laugh how good and genuine that felt thanks to this song. Thanks for the cover, and thanks to Martin and Michael for this amazing soundtrack.

I don't know what sort of man I would be today without this franchise and without characters like the Master Chief or the Rookie to be good male role models, but I'm thankful that during the worst time in my life I had them too look upto and to give me strength to push on even if I was all on my own. I have the ODST insignia tattooed on my arm , I look at it all the time when I feel defeated or hopeless.

odst was great because you weren't playing as a spartan... you were just a soldier... a rookie left alone in the streets, not knowing if your team was still alive. you were forced to tiptoe about in darkness because your ammo was limited and the enemy would not have much trouble killing you with numbers or heavier firepower. Music like this tied it together as a masterpiece that gave the perfect atmosphere of dread, despair, broken up by the occasional crumb of hope from a discarded sniper rifle, a drone survey unit, a malfunctioning ticket machine or even a telephone. This music is amazing, thank you for making this
@holioptic3 жыл бұрын

@Peaceful_Gojira3 жыл бұрын
This game was a mini-series in and of itself. It took every combat and lore from the Halo universe, and put you into the eyes of a soldier, not a feared demigod. You were alone, but your training held true and survival was priority 1. Priority 2 was to reunite with your team. I can remember ever so vividly ejecting from that ODST pod for the first time...realizing how vulnerable and weak I was. I am no longer this invincible force embodying a force of good...I am but a soldier in the war for humanity. One. I can visualize it all even now...walking the streets of a war-torn New Mombasa with nothing but my last resort sidearm, and my trusty M7S. Then, Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori's music kicked in. I stopped...and listened...I felt those notes sink into me...find me a sliver of hope amidst the darkness of the night. Each movement and advance in combat was no longer a killfest or a jolly walk through a campaign of epic proportions...it was a somber and melancholy experience through the eyes of a lone wolf, in search of his/her pack. A journey through the dark and damp city now in ruins from an alien invasion to Earth. I remember feeling the thrill of exploring each district and road...each alley and office space...but alas, never to see a sight of relief, but pain...a slayed marine, executed civilians...the darkness of war-driven hearts... I remember the power of joy overflowing finding clues of my team, clues of being alive. These were the faint glimmers of hope in the campaign for reuniting. And then, after playing the mission that lead the clues here...it was back to loneliness...isolation, and yearning for more...more hope among hopelessness. Then...more to follow...more streets to venture, more tunnels...an endless search; relentlessly maddening me, as the enemy kept on coming, creating this blackened stain over my once red and fiery heart for war....now just- simply...wanting to be back with my team...to be home. And so we, the players, as one of the ODST's Insertion Team, "The Rookie", mustered as much hope, rage and will to fight as we could...to eventually reunite with our comrades in arms...and aid in compromising our enemies' Engineer. The turn of the tide, that would allow, just as Noble Team did on Reach, the USNC and Master Chief and the Arbiter/Covenant Joint-Ops to push the gates of hell back into the vastness of space...to end an era of videogame history....to footnote the millennia of humanity. This game was a massive foreboding shadow to the coming close of videogame story telling in one of the most uniting and compelling franchises to date, before it was sent away on vacation forever after we experienced the Fall of Reach. If you read this from beginning to end, know that you are wonderful. Do not let the past devour your soul: let it be this music, a somber but kindling flame to you working towards your future. May your present be engulfed with new thinking, new learning, and new friends to aid you during these troubling times. But tread lightly onto your future, for forcefully bringing the future to you can only bring sorrow, or grief. The future does not come to you...you go into the future. So, enjoy the present so that you may sharpen your mind, hone your skills, and eventually work your body to a better tomorrow. Let yesterday's problems slowly drift into the past. Let your body heal, you can allow yourself this one mercy...you are worth it. You may not see it now, but for the love of humanity, you are worth every damn breath and tear drop, please... So just, be still....calm, silent....as these piano notes drift you into a better you...as you let your body be washed in the rains of the music...and the thunderous future come bellowing when it's time comes....fear not: you will be ready. _"You know the music, time to dance"_ ~ Edward Buck. _Halo 3: ODST_ October 20th, 2552 - Moments before the Slipspace Rupture Event in New Mombasa, Kenya, East Africa (November 22nd, 2009)

What I said about gamers being real gamers was is that it just seems like then it was about enjoying the game and everyone else having fun too. Now it just seems like everyone is sweating or trolling. Less people are playing for fun and more for getting the win by any means possible, it’s not entertainment, it’s a job. On the flip side there’s the trolls. They want their fun and find it often in your suffering. Maybe this is an illusion, but it seems gone are the days when others cared about others' enjoyment.
