@@Bassotronics Well, we all learn something new every day. There are actually quite a lot of subway systems on the east coast alone: MBTA (Boston), MTA (New York City), SEPTA (Philadelphia), MTA Maryland (Baltimore), WMATA (Washington DC), MARTA (Atlanta) and the Miami-Dade Metrorail in Miami. I'm not sure if you're aware of some of those transit systems. Yeah. First let’s get back the 7000 series trains. Even though all of METRO’s cars have forward and rear facing seats instead of all sideways seating, the new 7000 Series cars we are waiting to get back in service (from an earlier accident investigation) do have less seats and much more room for people to stand up. So they are a step in the right direction, once we finally get them back in service !

My brother and I used Marta for the first time when I was on vacation. It was pretty dead and limited, but I overall enjoyed it. MARTA operates almost exclusively in Fulton, Clayton, and DeKalb counties, although they maintain bus service to two destinations in neighboring Cobb County (Six Flags Over Georgia and the Cumberland Transfer Center next to the Cumberland Mall), while Doraville station serves portions of Gwinnett County via Gwinnett Transit buses. MARTA also operates Mobility, a separate paratransit service for disabled customers. As of 2014, the average total daily ridership for the entire system (bus and rail) was 432,900 passengers.[1]

BART has been adding new cars to its fleet as well. They have 3 doors on each side instead of two, fewer seats and more standing options to hang on to, and better electronic signs that tell you where the train is on the system map + signs on each end of the car letting you know which stop is next. The A/C works better than the old cars too. All in all, it’s a nice upgrade.

Wdym they service every activity center in the broader metropolitan area but emory university. They service the medical center, downtown, midtown, buckhead, chamblee, Decatur, and even doraville. These are all highly dense activity centers of varying degrees and all attract tons of both growth and traffic. I saw that V shape on the front in the thumbnail and immediately recognised it as a Stadler product. We've got some Stadler trains here in the UK on our national rail network, about 70 in East Anglia operating with Greater Anglia, and soon to enter service, a few fleets destined for commuter services around Cardiff in Wales, and Liverpool in the North West. The ones in East Anglia have- to put it simply- floored *everyone*. They're a monumental leap forward in British rolling stock, they're faster than almost every other regional train in the country- the 3-car hybrid variant running on Electric power is the fastest accelerating train in the country- and they're some of the most reliable new trains, as well as being exceptionally comfortable and by far the most accessible trains in the country. They are so far the only train which a wheelchair user can board unassisted, thanks to their 960mm floor height, matched to the platforms on the railways in East Anglia, and retractable steps that deploy to bridge the gap. I'm really excited to see Stadler finally making it big outside of Continental Europe and can't wait to see where they go next.

I can see them being given a second life by being placed in DC, Baltimore and Miami for example, I could also see some of them being kept as spare power in case the new subway cars break down or if another issue happens, some can even be preserved at museums like the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine for example, they have plenty of Subway cars down there so I can see them earning a new home there. well what do you expect it's built to move people from suburbs into cbds. i don't think the issue is lack of rolling stock it's lack of money for manpower to run the gold standard for lightly used suburban rail of 7-8min on weekends. 15-20 mins on weekends on a heavy rail system in a city like atl is indeed pathetic at least make it 12.
@nikosjk1
@nikosjk1 2 жыл бұрын
@@brianlacroix822 Well, it may have been built for that but certain parts of the system certainly could do more than that. The East-West line for example between Ashby and Decatur has quite dense neighborhoods surrounding the stations. I used to live in close walking distance to Edgewood station and would go out various places in Midtown but would normally take Uber because MARTA was so abysmal off peak. Even if you just enhanced service on the inner city segments that would make a big difference in usability. The combination of poor intervals and the change in Five Points just made it unusable for non work trips. Even on weekdays if I left work later than 6 or so it took very long.... I suspect you are right about the issue being money rather than rolling stock...

Definitely, especially in the central city. Yes, extending the red line up to Roswell, Alpharetta, etc and the gold line into Gwinnett would be great, its the intown areas like OFW, West Midtown, Summerhill, etc that need it the most. Then, expand to the rest of the dense areas ITP. At this point, Cobb, northern Fulton, Gwinett, Clayton, will be practically begging for extensions, so there will be less local opposition (the reason MARTA doesn't go there yet)

Well organized Marta was for Seattle but Seattle Metropolitan didn't want it. So Atlanta got it and it's only two metro areas that doesn't want Marta Cobb County and Gwinnett County

2:30 in video you said " minus c transfer seating" ??? What does this mean. Please explain these certain terms that many of us might not visualized what you're saying. It's very confused what you're saying some of the words just seem sluggish I don't know it just comes out this way. Try to speak clearer next time we love your videos and your opinions stay well during this pandemic we're still in all the best you in your future videos

The CQ312 are in awful shape. The bodies started bending almost immediately and the electronics were obsolete when they were introduced.

I don't particularly care for these, I like the current body structure better. A.M.O.F., a modernized retro design and features would have been better.

I think Rolling Stock is more important rn. Can’t run broken trains on a new line.
@adamt195
@adamt195 2 жыл бұрын
The existing trains are 10+ years past their expected lifetime. Mechanical failures happen frequently. No one will want to expand the system when the current system is unreliable. Either way, an expansion would generally require new trains to be bought anyways, or the existing trains would be spread out with less frequent service.

Hey we can criticize MARTA for having old cars but it’s nothing compared to the old stock Boston has on their Red Line !! I returned to Boston a year ago and rode their crappy old Red Line cars. It’s flat out embarrassing !!!

As a born and raised New Yorker I've always said that the MTA should build a new subway car different from what we are accustomed to something never seen before but I see alanta beat New York on that one. The new 211 are nice except the small windows and row seeing plus the same outdated design used on the NY subway cars for years. Marta I like your style.

Does Marta have a worse off rep with suburbanites than plentiful systems in comparably populated regions? Do they have unbearable crime or are the trains routinely reeking of bodily fluids? Then why on earth is the Atlanta region voting like they don’t have routinely SEVERE traffic congestion and have an actual suburban street grid instead of it purely wheel & spoke well outside the downtown core? They’re never going to be Dallas no matter how big they make their roads… and that says something (you see how big I-75 AND I-85 get a ways north of “the Perimeter”?!). Not only does Atlanta need LRT within the city itself AND a commuter rail baseline, but they need a metro line to entirely parallel ALL OF THE SUPER DENSE DEVELOPMENT along the “top end” of I-285, as well as the blue, green & gold lines extended accordingly to fan out crowds between the Perimeter and said commuter rail system that needs to exist long term… OH, and secondary (but VERY dense) business districts will overwhelmingly likely require streetcar/trams to effectively disperse crowds from said primary commuter/metro stations. Take Cumberland, Sandy Springs, and perhaps Marietta (and that’s not counting the noticeable number of dying shopping malls that could overwhelmingly likely be completely redone into high rise mixed use districts within a district especially in the less foreseeable future.

Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) was the first in North America to introduce open gang-ways.(Our trains are built in Thunder Bay by Bombardier (now ALSTOM) These trains run on our North South line (line 1) they can hold 33% more passengers. And they run on Automated Train Control (ATC) being installed by ALSTOM. The new trains are (as of a year ago) One operator. no guard car to operate doors anymore. Open gangways are not bad, i too was unsure of the safety... its nice to be able to walk through the train when its moving. Dont forget, Toronto has had a heavy rail subway since 1954. Montreal uses trains like Pairs opened in the 60s, Vancouver, Detroit, Washington and Scarborough all use (what started out as ) ICTS (Intermediate Capacity Transit System ) in the late 80s though All have moved on to next generation trains, and Scarborough will be shut down and demolished in December. but they are NOT SUBWAYS! they are light rail systems. SUBWAY = Heavy rail (NYC and Toronto)
