I feel more nervous down by the Chelsea area, behind the Tropicana, than that area. It may be, I think probably, familiarity? When there were nightclubs on Martin Luther King Blvd, I'd leave drunk at 4am, and walk up to the dirty bookstore area. Never had a problem. I don't think there's dirty bookstores anymore, to my sadness, lol. Love the excitement entering & looking around the magazine section and being cool (appearing that way, lol) about the whole thing.

I've talked with a bartender from a casino who lived on Atlantic Ave for 27 years. Walked to work. No major problems, he told me. A regular at Tonys B@G, same. A jitney driver, for years, some issues, but got away unscathed. Not everything is peaches and cream, like most cities There are problems, but a little education, awareness, and common sense, helps. That being said, Jeff is way more fearless in his journeys, than me. My younger days were different. I still go to AC however, and have had no problems, both on and off the boardwalk, 35 years now. DO AC

Even driving past it in the car, make sure the car doors are locked and windows all the way up. It's a shame, but some areas were always sketchy in AC.

I know that walk well - well the back end of it as I have done the AC Half Marathon quite a few times and it's a great course because on a beautiful day like you had it's a pretty city BUT as my Dad says (for the back-end part of your walk) he's always telling me not to get mugged. When I'm in a race, I don't think of that because they would have to mug 1000 of us (haha!) BUT I am pretty sure I would never do it solo ... but, nice to know you can get from the Boardwalk all the way over to Gardeners Basin. AC race course puts you back on the boardwalk just before the Ocean which is like mile 8 or so ... thanks for sharing this walk and view!
@NuYawkАй бұрын
Thanks for watching and subscribing Andrea! My running days are behind me, but I really enjoy a long walk! I was in town during the 5k and 10k, did you run it this year?
@richardhales92Ай бұрын
I hope you had some good marathon runs. Am I right in saying that the boardwalk didn't always extend down to Gardeners Basin? Isn't that kind of new? How long do you think it's been since they've added the extension? I've never walked past Ocean Casino, but I didn't think it was possible to go any further, for a good long time.
@andreagdonski8530Ай бұрын
@@richardhales92 - Definitely always good (even in lousy weather) - it's always good out there :) I that extension is relatively new withing that last few years ... I remember my Aunt telling me it would stop after a certain point (let's say around Flagship - not 100% sure) but, that whole extension is really pretty new.
@richardhales92Ай бұрын
@@andreagdonski8530 It is nice the extension is available. The New York Marathon is Sunday, and the tents are up. I went to walk a bit in Central Park on Wednesday, but the construction was going on for the marathon and some streets were closed off. I think you runners like weather a little less than the 80 degrees we've been having, lol. That's the rumors...

I have made many late-night/early-morning walks from *ahem* slightly south of Resorts down to Caesars and even Tropicana, and always managed to avoid any kind of harassment. But I was just plain lucky. I do not do it anymore and warn anyone without a blackbelt or a permit against doing so. Oddly, I have always been one of the most cautious, risk-adverse people you'll ever meet. Not sure what got into me. Oh right, alcohol...

I have ridden a bicycle I rented from Lucy in margate to the casinos on the bay it was indeed a nice ride seeing all the fishing and other activities. The white bicycles signify a bike rider lost his or her life riding there. It is to make us living bike riders to be careful and bike riding can be fun but can be dangerous too.

@ there was a rental place a short walk south from the Tropicana, sometimes he let me ride a couple more hours for free. Google earth pictures the place with jersey barriers and work being done in that strip of stores, it was called cycles of life. I think they had another place north of the ocean casino.
