It's unknown when the human genome split off into the separate Atlantean line, but once it did, the evolutionary progress of the Atlanteans was swift.
Within a year of the maturation of the first Atlanteans, they had built a powerful empire, and they projected that power from an island fortress of technological marvels that the ordinary humans of the time regarded simply as the magical workings of Gods.
It was this first year that many Atlanteans, long lived as they were, would look back to and remember fondly as they watched the empire succumb to madness and decay in the wake of the pact they had made with the creatures from The Deep.
