From what I hear and see, the Atlas lathes are always noisy. Great fix.

I have another video in me on this subject. I don't believe they were always noisy. I think they are always out of adjustment. There are other things that need upgraded and also better lubricants. It will include some machining and maybe a few new ideas people haven't considered. I subbed your channel. Can't wait to see your new-old lathe story begin.

Hot diggity dog! As you know, I'm having the same issue. Now I know ho to address it. Awesome! BTW, Tubalcain just put up a video on adjusting the change gears. Uses a method with a sheet of paper between the gears to set the correct distance between the teeth.

a tip: you can watch movies at flixzone. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.

whoa boy you might want to look up how to modify a drill for brass. it tends to suck up the drill and is very dangerous to drill sheaf stock the way you did. (not preaching just don't want you to get cut up ) this is a great idea I'll have to see if my standard change gear model can be adjusted like this.it sounds like a harvester with them in gaged

+Chris Anderson Yea, I should have done it between slats of wood. I don't want to alter my bits as I'll rarely be drilling brass. The really proper way would be with a Whitney punch or some kind of shop press. I own a punch set for leather. I thought about using it but decided against it. I'll be careful in the future if I do any more brass sheet.

Tumbler gear consist of how many gears
@CraftedChannel7 жыл бұрын
There are 2 tumblers. One, the other or neither are engaged at any one time. They are idler gears meaning they do not change ratio but simply move rotational force from one place to another. In center position there is no engagement which means my gearbox and lead screw are not turning. In either of the other two positions I can use them to feed the carriage or compound in or out when I engage them with the carriage controls.

Um... No oil on the gears? And.. I made a bolt with off center shaft to correct that.
@CraftedChannel7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure I oiled them either off camera or shortly there after. They are goey as as I type this. ;-)

+Bison Workshop The tops of the teeth are still there. The faces wear, not the OD. There may be some wear there for certain. The pitch distance between gear sets would be a fairly fixed value. The OD of the gears is still intact from what I can tell from inspection.
