So small of a machine, but, so much resistance from it... It will make you a very nice tool once all renewed, I'm sure you'll do a first class rebuild on this... 😎👍 Today, first snow for this up and coming Winter, wish I was younger, that time when it was a joy for me to see that nice white carpet... Now, not so joyful... 🍦🍦🍦🥶🤧

Pierre's Garage We got 6 inches on Halloween! It’s gone but what a surprise! And that machine is a fighter! I sure hope I can find the time to make it a usable addition to the shop. Wish me luck and stay warm up there 😬. And thank you very much...

Cool process, but it's the nature of this craft, you make tools to make the tools that make the tools, to do the job. Great job.

I have had one of those little mills setting in a corner for about 10 years now. I just had shoulder surgery and it's cold here in Alaska right now. I just put it up on th work bench to tear down clean and paint. Im looking forward to the project. This video was very useful

Thank you so much! There is a youtuber Ghostses that shows exactly how to tear it down and put it back together too. Good luck with yours and thank you again.....

Those zamak chamfered wedges were a common design among all Atlas tools. It’s the same as your tail stock clamp on your 6” lathe. Also seen them on atlas made drill press table lifts and even King Seeley used the design when they made the 80/100 Craftsman drill presses. Later they switched to steel on the presses. The problem is the how malleable the zamak is and when it clamps it can deform and cause it to get stuck. I’ve destroyed many of them before but luckily on the stuff I removed them from I have access to both sides of the bore and I just air hammer them out and replace with steel. Flawed design.

I had no idea! I just got some different ones that are zamak, but I will machine steel ones. You just saved me some headaches down the line. Thank you very much!

You're right! I need to do that. Let me see if I can at least do that. It's under a tarp in a heated garage, so it's ok. But I need to update everyone on that. I will see what I can do. And thank you...

You can checkout the 3 videos of my rebuild, too. The Atlas mill was fun, but I just outgrew the small work envelope. I sold the Jefferson and the Atlas and went with a Wells Index. Keep up the good work!

Is the difficult bolt removal near the end part of the lockdown for the overarm support? If so, that would explain why the overarm came out so hard. Once you cleaned it up, the original paint looks great. Most older machine shop equipment looks much worse than that inside. It gets used daily, but will never be disassembled and cleaned. I fixed up a couple old Logan lathes several years ago, and the headstocks were so full of chips I was amazed the gears could turn.
@jster19635 жыл бұрын
It was the overarm support locking mechanism and not the locking nut. It was a nightmare to get out! And I was quite surprised how nice it looks cleaned up. However, I think I'm still going to paint it because I will probably never have it apart again. And thank you very much.....

ANY time you are doing a disassembly or tear down using some thin penetrating lube FIRST is a must....especially when you discover a part won't move immediately....like BEFORE the hammer and pipe wrench!!!
