I did this same thing to my StarCraft SF14 It had a short transom and I set it up to the Merc 25 at 21 inches high, Used a Diamond plate truck tool box for the sheet of Aluminum to cover the back. CHEERS Michael!

Guys, when you’re drilling through transoms with those big bits, switch to a high speed 1/2 inch or larger corded electric drill. It will provide the additional torque and speed you need to cut through all that material. Those battery powered drills don’t have enough power to do the job. Trust me on this, I’ve been doing work like this since the late ‘70s. Good job over all, just remember there are some jobs where those battery powered tools just don’t have enough muscle.. Cheers, and thanks for this great video.

How has the jackplate held up since you’ve had it. Looking to get one but I’m not sure what to get

I would recommend a product called Tap Magic Aluminum. It’s a great cutting oil. For drill bits loom for TiN coated ones. They will last a lot longer than black oxide and the tap magic will keep them cooler and lubricated.

Spend the money on cobalt bits and never look back. The titanium nitride is just a coating better but not what you want if you’re doing a lot of metal work

I wish y’all had that transom on your site when I redid mine. It’s okay maybe on the next build.

Just for a motor and it’s a 20 inch shaft I need a 25inch shaft. Does this jack go down? Or I have to place the jack 5 inch lower from the top of the transom.

Modify your transit to fit a motor that big. Or get a different motor if that’s not the case.

The Micro Jackplate will not clear most portable outboard clamps. You have to add spacers between the outboard and the jackplate atleast 5/8" or .625". You can go 3/4" or .750" if you want more clearance. Universal aluminum spacers can be ordered online. O.D. needs to be atleast 1.5" and I.D. needs to be a little over 1/2" for the bolts to go through. I had to do this to my Suzuki 20hp and 30hp on the same boat but I machined my own spacers. If you are able to put 4 bolts into the jackplate, you can remove the outboard clamps. They're just in the way. If your portable outboard has standard hole patterns, then do the spacers. If your outboard does not have standard mounting holes, you will need the adaptor made for the jackplate for clamp on style outboards. I still had to add 1/2" of space to clear the clamps on my 20hp suzuki with the clamp on bracket.

question..... why don't you use protective agents on the transom trees so that the trees don't rot???
