Film from the Atlas Centaur Heritage Film Collection which was donated to the San Diego Air and Space Museum by Lockheed Martin and United Launch Alliance. The Collection contains 3,000 reels of 16-millimeter film.

Interesting to see what changes were later made to the missile - also that they made this kind of information film in 1954 when the program was so highly classified.

I never heard that a version of the Atlas used gasoline as fuel.

Evidently the hydrogen bomb test footage from the Eniwetok tests hadn't been declassified enough to incorporate into this film... They used regular atomic bomb test footage. Later! OL J R :)

Also, this film was made before the warhead mass was finalized. The lighter warhead resulted in "downsizing" the booster to the final configuration of 3 main engines and a 10-foot-diameter tank.
