The story of Manuel’s Tavern goes back decades, to a Lebanese immigrant who opened a bar across the street from the Georgia State Capitol. Politicians would go to the bar to drink and socialize, and when the family moved to Poncey Highland in 1956, the politicians followed. Now, Manuel’s Tavern an iconic Atlanta restaurant, as both a required stop for campaigning Democratic politicians, and a place to treat like your best friend’s living room, where you can just plop down and relax. They faced hardships during COVID 19, but the community supported them in ways that blew them away. It’s no surprise that the whole staff is a family there - Chef Stanley Barnes has been working in the kitchen since he was 15 years old.
