Atmos 528 Overhaul Part 3 Clock Regulation & New Suspension Spring

After erratic amplitude measurements, it was decided that the overhauled Atmos 528 would benefit from a new suspension spring. In this video, I will take you step-by-step on how to install a new suspension spring in your Atmos clock.
The new spring will require additional weights and a regulation process.

I've ruined 5 suspension springs trying to do this. I honestly don't know how the hell you do it? I cannot get the spring through the upper swedge w/o using a razor blade to try and pry it open enough to get it through and of course have broken off one side of it. even when I get it through it never stays centered and I'm sure it should be if it is going to not hit the side of the tube even after I poise it.

Suspension springs are tough. There’s a reason why I said good luck a couple of times at the beginning of the video. This is not for everyone to do. I just put three in within the last two weeks. I recommend rolling the razor blade off of the lower clamp. As you roll the razor blade off, the clamp will slowly close. The trick is keeping the spring straight while you are rolling that razor blade off. I started to use a ceramic tip tweezer to force the suspension spring through the small upper clamp. It allows me to get a good grip on the suspension spring. Try using just a little bit of moisture on the tip of the suspension spring as you send it through the centering tube of the upper clamp. Hello, I am fan of you channel and I have learned a lot from your videos, now I need your help, where do you buy the suspension spring, because the ones I have bought I think are little thicker than the genuine and gets the clock fast almost 20 minutes per day, I will really appreciate if you share your supplier. The suspension spring is the same for a528 and 540 Atmos ? Thanks Carlos

The suspension spring from timesaver can be used from the Atmos 2 all the way to the modern 540. You will need to add weights to the balance to slow the clock to within three minutes a day. Now you regulate using the regulator on the top of the clock.

Where do you buy your suspension springs? And is it even possible to find the upper regulator, I've broken one trying to pry it open with a razor blade; BIG MISTAKE!

Buy the suspension spring from Timesavers. Never pry the upper clamp open. You’ll need another upper clamp from a used clock.
