I mean, the character is not translucid. So... Just adding a faint light on the ground close to its feet would make it accurate and good looking

perhaps the sun hitting the character is causing a glow from behind...in which case the shadow is absolutely necessary....

As a professional graphics designer. I love how you've done an unedited tutorial. Leaving backtracks like the clouds and learning as you go. Very true to what it's like to work in this branch. You can't make perfect art, if you don't try to make perfect art - the real goal is thr final product, don't matter how you got there.

For anyone interested: Alt+Click is the equivalent of "Create Clipping Mask" if you right-click on the layer it will then contain all changes to the layer below (ie mask to that).

Finally! I’ve been waiting for a video like this! I am gonna watch this several more times.. I got a degree in Visual Communication, but even now still have issues with translating this stuff into 2d game art illustrations. Thanks for sharing Thomas! I especially loved hearing that this is how you define your rules for the rest of the game. It’ll be a good jumping off point.

I saw some great ideas. It's always great seeing others and how they work on their projects. Throughout the whole video I was like "yea, thats nice. yea i can do the depth like that too. yea this is a clever way to build the mood of the map". Please do more videos on how you work on your projects, you are an inspiration!

Thanks for the great tutorial. I've seen a couple of tutorials that do a similar concept, but what makes this tutorial stand out is that you take the time to explain the reasons behind your artistic choices as well as sharing some great tips(Like squinting your eyes for the shadows and highlights or zoom out to see if you are on the right track). Tbh the games youve made you plug every video personally arent my style but you as a dev have easily become one of my favorites to watch. The energy and overall feeling of genuine wanting to help others do something they love along with the sense of humor is great to see
