Hello! I have downloaded a landsat8 OLI image from USGS earth explorer. Do I need to georeference it as part of preprocessing? If needed, where can I get the base map for georeferencing? Thank you.

It depends on your purpose. you can use google map or google earth to get longitude and latitude value of several selected point then use it to do georeferencing.
