"atom 4" by Sleeping At Last

Welcome to “atoms”: tiny pieces of music inspired by tiny and beautiful things! When I see something striking, I’ll film it, then write a short piece of new music for that moment. Tiny film scores, if you will. Basically, I want to musically follow Mary Oliver’s beautiful “instructions for living a life: pay attention. be astonished. tell about it.”
Each “atom” song and video is/will be roughly 1 minute in length, which compliments our social media digital worlds (and short attention spans) and will be released spontaneously! First as posts on Instagram, TikTok, KZbin, etc. Shortly after, each “atom” will be widely available on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
In the same way that seeing something beautiful in the middle of my day feels kind of like an oasis, a tiny chance to catch my breath, the hope for “atoms” is to offer up that same meditative feeling in your Insta timeline or TikTok feed, or in the middle of your next “doom scroll” ..or when you’re way deep down a KZbin rabbit hole.
Because real-life atoms become molecules, once a handful of my “atoms” are released into the wild, I’ll do occasional “Molecule Sessions”, in which I will choose a few “atoms” (perhaps with your help?!) and expand on them, transforming them into something different! I’m very excited about what these tiny pieces of music may become!
This is "atom 4" and is set to footage of light and smoke after a fireworks show in Disney World.

Idk how to explain this but Sleeping at Last has such a meaningful part in my life. Two months ago my grandpa passed away and I made a video on his honor. When I was thinking ab the music my first thought was sleeping at last. It was funny how while I was scrolling looking for the song I accidentally clicked a video. That video was "In her honor". I cried while listening because somehow that song was exactly how I felt about my grandpa gone. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you sleeping at last for making such wonderful and meaningful songs. I will always be happy and grateful that I've found this band years ago

This is like the feeling you get when a movie has a sad but happy ending. It gives me perspective. Something I'm still learning. I had to get rid of one of my dogs recently because they all fought for dominance and it got really bad. So I am trying to see the happier side to this because he now has a new home and not see that I no longer have him with me. Life can be so much easier with perspective. 😊

I couldn't help but cry when listening to this. It's beautiful. It reminds me of the process of asking for help. How you know that person will bring you comfort but you don't want to be a burden for them. How you need to take small steps, like going up stairs, and sometimes the doubt will hit you and you'll go down. How you have to gather courage and strength to finally let out all that you're feeling. And how surprised you are when what awaits you at the other side of the door is a hug. And support. And love.
